About Shepherd Center
With five decades of experience, Shepherd Center provides world-class clinical care, research, and family support for people experiencing the most complex conditions, including spinal cord and brain injuries, multi-trauma, traumatic amputations, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and pain. An elite center ranked by U.S. News as one of the nation's top hospitals for rehabilitation, Shepherd Center is also recognized as both Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems. Shepherd is the only rehabilitation facility in the nation with an intensive care unit on-site, allowing us to care for the most complex patients and begin the rehabilitation process sooner. Shepherd Center treats thousands of patients annually with unmatched expertise and unwavering compassion to help them begin again.
Shepherd Center's culture is one of hope, humor, and hard work. You will enjoy career growth, strong relationships with co-workers, strong support from leadership, and fun activities that have kept over 12% of staff members working at Shepherd for more than 20 years.
Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia, is recruiting a full-time, inpatient Rehabilitation Psychologist, to work with patients with ABI, SCI, amputation, polytrauma, and other neuromedical conditions on our inpatient Comprehensive Rehabilitation Unit (CRU). The psychologist should have specialty training in neurorehabilitation psychology, and have medical center/hospital, and interdisciplinary treatment team experience. This role allows you to develop active interdisciplinary team leadership, provide cognitive and psychological evaluations as needed, and psychological interventions and services for medical patients and their care partners.
The Psychology department is a large, well-supported department, with staff across services in spinal cord injury, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and pain management clinics. The department also provides training for students and postdoctoral fellows, with mentoring/teaching opportunities available.
Shepherd Center is a private, not-for-profit, 175-bed rehabilitation hospital, specializing in the medical treatment, research, and rehabilitation for people with neurological injuries or illnesses. Shepherd Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 10 best rehabilitation hospitals in the nation. This position includes a comprehensive benefits package including competitive salary, health/dental/vision insurance, CEU opportunities, 403(b) with employer match, paid time off, and more.
Atlanta is a family-friendly, beautiful, healthy place to live. Travel is easy with large domestic and international airports. We host the third largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the country, including Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Delta Airlines, AT&T, and many more. Culture, music, sports, art- it's all here. But best of all, the world-renowned reputation of Shepherd Center makes it easy to take pride in your work and be an important part of incredible patient care teams.
Qualifications:
  • PhD or PsyD from an APA/CPA-approved doctoral program in Psychology.
  • APA-accredited internship completion.
  • 1 or 2-year postdoctoral training in rehabilitation or military psychology, or 2+ years' work experience with relevant patient populations.
  • Experience working in medical or military settings and interdisciplinary treatment teams is preferred.
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of Georgia.
  • Eligible for board certification in rehabilitation, clinical, or health psychology preferred.
