Job description

StartPlaying
At StartPlaying, we're on a mission to build communities through play. We believe that being a Game Master (GM) isn't just a hobby; it's the best gig economy job in the world. Whether you're running epic tabletop campaigns or intimate storytelling sessions, we empower GMs to turn their passion into a thriving business.
We're building the platform we always wished existed. As passionate gamers and creators ourselves, we understand the profound impact of meaningful play. One of our co-founders was the world's first professional GM, and that pioneering spirit runs through everything we do.
Why Now?
Since launching, we've helped Game Masters earn over 40 million dollars doing what they love, and we're just getting started. We're building powerful tools to help GMs engage with players, grow communities, and make a living on their own terms. We're seeking a Customer Support Specialist to help us scale and further develop the platform for both GMs and players.
About the Role
The Content Creator at StartPlaying is responsible for bringing our brand to life across social media, events, and community channels. This role blends creativity, strategy, and execution, producing a high volume of engaging short-form videos, repurposing long-form content, and crafting compelling copy that reflects our tone and values.
You'll manage our content pipeline end-to-end: concepting ideas, shooting and editing assets, scheduling posts, analyzing performance, and adapting strategies to drive growth.
Working closely with Product, Customer, and other internal teams, you'll help amplify company initiatives and ensure our community feels informed, excited, and connected.
This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, with 2-3 days per week in our office working closely with our CEO, Devon Chulick.
The role also includes moderate travel to 2+ major tabletop and gaming conventions each year like GenCon, PAX Unplugged, DragonCon, and others. You'll capture content, support event activations, and help represent StartPlaying in person.
In Person Perks:
  • Dedicated workspace inside our professional studio
  • Company laptop and phone
  • Free lunch every Thursday
  • Commuter stipend
Responsibilities
  • Concept, shoot, star in, and edit short-form videos (approximately 15 per week), UGC-style content, and behind-the-scenes stories, sketches, updates, etc. You'll be on camera in many of these, so being comfortable in front of the lens is a must.
  • Create a range of content, from high-quality polished assets to lo-fi authentic videos.
  • Write engaging copy for posts, captions, scripts, and campaign materials that reflect StartPlaying's brand tone.
  • Write scripts and help produce long-form content; edit and repurpose long-form content for social.
  • Repurpose content across channels to maximize reach and consistency.
  • Curate UGC from ambassadors, creators, and customers.
  • Manage the content calendar and coordinate scheduling across all platforms.
  • Track trends, identify emerging formats, and adapt them in fresh, brand-appropriate ways.
  • Create platform-specific content (graphics, short-form video, captions) for Instagram, TikTok, Threads, and others as needed.
  • Monitor content performance metrics and optimize based on insights to hit reach, share, and engagement goals.
  • Develop and refine strategies for posting, sharing, and distributing content.
  • Engage with our online community by responding to comments and messages
  • Collaborate with Product, Customer, and other internal teams where necessary
  • Manage influencer and creator content, including coordination, approvals, and distribution.
  • Become an expert on StartPlaying and the market we operate in to ensure authentic, knowledgeable content.
  • Support events, including GM recruitment, email campaigns, and event page coordination.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience managing social media for a brand, organization, or creator.
  • Proven track record of producing high-performing or viral content across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Ability to travel to two+ gaming conventions a year
  • Comfortable speaking on camera and appearing in short-form content.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, you can craft captions, headlines, and scripts that feel natural, engaging, and on-brand.
  • Skilled in video editing using tools like Premiere, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, or similar, with a strong sense of composition, pacing, and rhythm.
  • Deep understanding of social media trends, formats, algorithms, and best practices.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to operate independently in a hybrid work environment.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to turn ideas into compelling narratives, hooks, and formats.
  • Interest in, or familiarity with the tabletop gaming space.
What It's Like to Work Here
We're a small, mostly remote team of nerds, builders, and play enthusiasts. We optimize for thoughtful output and real impact.
You'll be part of a culture where:
  • Everyone has a seat at the table, and your ideas can shape the company.
  • We make data-driven decisions based on analytics and user needs.
  • We strive to create the best solutions possible by embracing great ideas and encouraging one another along the way.
  • We don't take ourselves too seriously and believe that happy employees do their best work.
  • We love building cool shit and are passionate about delighting our users.
  • We tackle challenging problems when necessary and celebrate innovative ideas to avoid them entirely.
  • We cultivate an environment that encourages and enables people to learn, take on new challenges, and consistently own more impactful projects.
Benefits & Perks
Take Care of Your Future
  • 100% coverage on medical and 70% coverage for your dependents
  • 50% coverage on dental and vision for you and your dependents
  • 401(k) through HumanInterest

Generous Time Off
  • Unlimited vacation, with a required minimum of 2 weeks
  • All Federal holidays + Thanksgiving + Winter Break
  • Flexible parental leave (100% coverage for up to 12 weeks and staggered RTO)
  • One nerd convention of your choice, on us
  • Annual company offsite

Hybrid Work & In-Person Perks
  • Work 2-3 days per week from our San Francisco office
  • Free lunch every Thursday
  • Dedicated workspace in our professional studio
  • Commuter stipend
  • Company-issued laptop and phone

Travel Opportunities
  • Attend 2+ conventions each year (e.g., GenCon, PAX Unplugged, DragonCon, and others)
  • Travel, lodging, and expenses covered
  • Attend a company offsite each year
Our Values
  • We Own Outcomes: We take responsibility for results, not only tasks.
  • We Act with Judgment: We move quickly and think clearly.
  • We Finish What We Start: Execution builds trust.
  • We Figure It Out: We are undaunted.
  • We Show Up for Each Other: We are a team of humans, not robots.

StartPlaying is a safe space, and we value diversity. We are an equal opportunity employer: we do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We think this should be a given, but are explicitly stating it anyway.
