Job description

Join the City of South Jordan as a Full-Time Wildland Fire Program Manager!

Are you an experienced fire service professional with a passion for wildland operations, leadership, and community preparedness? The City of South Jordan Fire Department is seeking a Full-Time Wildland Fire Program Manager to lead and strengthen the Department's Wildland Fire Program.

This position is an opportunity to combine operational leadership with program development, training, interagency coordination, and community wildfire risk reduction. The Wildland Fire Program Manager will help ensure our personnel, equipment, qualifications, and response capabilities are ready when they are needed most.

What You'll Do:
  • Administer, evaluate, and continuously improve the Fire Department's Wildland Fire Program, including policies, annual goals, budgets, equipment planning, and operational readiness.
  • Coordinate wildland training, annual RT-130 refreshers, Pack Tests, NWCG qualifications, Red Cards, Position Task Books, and deployment rosters.
  • Inspect and coordinate the readiness of wildland apparatus, equipment, trailers, PPE, and deployment supplies.
  • Deploy as an Engine Boss on Type 1, Type 3, and Type 6 engine assignments during local, state, and interstate incidents.
  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and evaluate personnel during training, incidents, and deployments.
  • Partner with City departments and outside agencies to identify wildfire risks, support hazardous-fuels mitigation projects, and strengthen community wildfire preparedness.
  • Assist with the City's Community Wildfire Protection Plan, grant opportunities, public education, defensible-space initiatives, and other wildfire-resilience efforts.
Who You Are:
  • An experienced fire service professional with at least five years of full-time fire-service-related experience and an associate degree or 60 semester hours of college education. Additional qualifying fire service experience may substitute for the education requirement.
  • Currently qualified as an NWCG Engine Boss (ENGB) or higher and able to maintain an active NWCG Red Card and deployment status.
  • A Utah Advanced EMT or Paramedic with required Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I, and fire inspection certifications.
  • A confident leader who can make sound decisions in high-risk environments, mentor personnel, manage multiple priorities, and build productive relationships with partner agencies and the community.
  • Prepared to work extended or unconventional hours, travel for deployments, and maintain the physical and medical standards required for operational wildland response.
Why Join South Jordan?
  • Lead a Growing Program – Help shape the future of wildland fire preparedness and response within our community.
  • Make a Community Impact – Support wildfire mitigation, preparedness, and risk-reduction efforts throughout South Jordan.
  • Develop Others – Mentor firefighters as they pursue NWCG qualifications and operational experience.
  • Work Across Agencies – Build partnerships with City departments, state agencies, and other cooperating organizations.
How to Apply:

This position is open until September 4, 2026. If you are ready to bring your wildland fire expertise, operational leadership, and program-management skills to the City of South Jordan Fire Department, we encourage you to apply.

Apply today and help strengthen South Jordan's wildland fire readiness, resilience, and response capabilities.
