Position Summary
Watchmaker is inviting applications for the full-time position of Vice President, Marketing based in Boulder, CO (open to remote).
The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced working environment and contribute directly to our company culture and success.
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the VP of Marketing will lead and scale a high-performing team across Product Management, Product Marketing and Design, NPD Project Management and Product Operations. The VP will own the commercial marketing engine - product strategy, portfolio management, launches, brand, and revenue enablement. The organization is structured across four pillars: NGS Product Management, MDx/Enzymes Product Management, Product Operations and Product Marketing and Design.
Responsibilities
  • Drive product portfolio strategy across NGS, MDx/Enzymes, and emerging applications (In collaboration with R&D), in preparation for Portfolio Committee alignment, approval and prioritization
  • Lead commercial launch execution, ensuring campaigns, sales enablement, and customer engagement are ready
  • Directly manage and develop the marketing organization across Product Management, Product Marketing and Design, NPD Project Management and Product Operations
  • Support the marketing leadership team to operate at leadership level through coaching, team development, and structural support
  • Drive Portfolio Committee proposal quality with commercial depth, competitive positioning, and strategic clarity
  • Oversee the Product Operations pillar including centralized pricing analysis, forecasting, marketing analytics, and PCQT coordination
  • Lead marketing strategy including positioning, messaging, campaigns, conferences, digital presence, and competitive intelligence
  • Oversee the NPD Project management team, supporting the ELT and the company with portfolio and product level timelines and dashboards for on time, in full launches
  • Partner with the Chief Commercial Officer on commercial strategy, sales alignment, pricing, and revenue targets
  • Collaborate with R&D leadership on NPD pipeline, discovery priorities, product-market fit and 2-year rolling roadmaps
  • Drive QBR cadence for portfolio health visibility and data-driven decision-making
  • Manage marketing budget, headcount planning, and hiring
  • Implement and leverage marketing automation tools and CRM to manage the funnel and drive conversions
  • Lead and represent the company at key customer meetings, conferences, and industry events

Skills and Requirements
The candidate should have a Masters with 15+ years of life sciences marketing experience and 5 years of experience leading a team. Experience in genomics, NGS, molecular diagnostics, or adjacent tools markets is required.

  • Deep understanding of NGS, molecular diagnostics, and/or enzyme-based applications, able to engage technically with Product Managers and R&D
  • Track record of commercial launch excellence across multiple product launches in a high-growth life sciences environment
  • Experience building or scaling marketing analytics, pricing, and forecasting functions
  • Strong strategic thinker who can also operate hands-on in a scaling organization
  • Excellent cross-functional partnership skills, works effectively with Sales, R&D, Operations, and executive leadership
  • Both startup and larger company experience preferred
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity in a growing and evolving organization
  • Demonstrated leadership of strong team culture in a high-performance environment

Education and Experience
  • Masters in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related discipline. MBA is a plus. Will consider a Bachelor's degree only with additional relevant experience.
  • Minimum 15 years in Product Management and/or Product Marketing or related function in life sciences (genomics, diagnostics, biotech, tools).
  • Plus a minimum 5 years leading teams across product management and/or product marketing.

Compensation
The base compensation for the Vice President, Marketing role starts at $200,000 - $250,000 + bonus + equity; actual pay will be adjusted based on skills and experience. Employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off, Holidays, employer covers 75% of base medical plan with buy-up options, EAP (employee assistance program), employer paid dental with a buy-up option, employer paid vision, employer paid $25,000 life/AD&D policy, paid parental leave, and a 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% match.
