What does a full time video producer do?

A full time video producer oversees the creation of video content from concept to completion. Their responsibilities typically include planning and developing ideas, managing budgets and schedules, coordinating with crew and talent, and ensuring the final product meets creative and technical standards. Video producers work on a variety of projects such as commercials, corporate videos, films, or online content. They often collaborate with directors, editors, and clients to bring a vision to life, handling both the creative and logistical aspects of production.

What are the typical challenges a Full Time Video Producer faces when managing multiple projects simultaneously?

As a Full Time Video Producer, juggling several projects at once often means balancing tight deadlines, coordinating with diverse teams, and adapting quickly to changing client or stakeholder needs. Effective time management and clear communication are crucial, as producers frequently oversee everything from pre-production planning to post-production editing. Staying organized and prioritizing tasks helps ensure that projects stay on track and maintain high quality. Building strong relationships with crew members and clients also plays a key role in overcoming these challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Video Producer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Video Producer, you need expertise in video production, editing, storytelling, and project management, typically supported by a degree in film, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and equipment such as cameras and lighting is essential, and certifications in these tools can be advantageous. Strong communication, creativity, and leadership skills help you collaborate effectively with teams and manage projects from concept to completion. These skills ensure the creation of high-quality, engaging content delivered on time and within budget, which is vital for success in this role.

Job description

The Vox Media Podcast Network is seeking a Senior Video Producer to drive multiplatform production across a diverse and high-profile slate of podcasts. This role will serve as a key creative contributor to show teams launching new video-first shows, and support production across the existing show slate as needed.
You'll work closely with hosts, producers, and editorial stakeholders to shape each show's unique visual and conceptual identity, develop segments/formats, and lead a weekly edit workflow. This is a hands-on role for a highly skilled and versatile video editor and visual storyteller who has experience managing freelance contributors, coaching host talent, and delivering polished, high-performing content tailored to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Partner with podcast teams across the network to develop and launch new video shows, offering both creative consultation and execution support.
  • Edit and produce longform video episodes for platforms like YouTube, ensuring strong pacing, dynamic visuals, and high production value across remote, in-studio, and hybrid formats.
  • Create platform-native shortform video content optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts-translating strong podcast moments into compelling visual stories.
  • Design and implement scalable visual elements (motion graphics, captions, lower-thirds, etc.) that align with each show's tone and target platform.
  • Manage and mentor freelance editors and designers, assigning work, giving creative feedback, and ensuring brand consistency and quality across deliverables.
  • Write and edit scripts as needed in collaboration with hosts/show teams.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, social, and audience development teams to ensure shows meet performance goals and platform best practices.
  • Stay current on visual and social trends across the podcast and digital media landscape, offering insights and ideas that help shows reach their target audiences and stand out from their competitive set.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • 6-8+ years of experience in digital video production, with a track record of success creating editorial or creator-driven content for social and streaming platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce both longform and shortform video content, especially for talk-based or interview-driven formats.
  • Strong editing expertise in Adobe Premiere (motion design and graphics capabilities in After Effects or similar tools a plus).
  • Experience managing freelancers or vendors, and clear creative direction that ensures timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Excellent editorial instincts and scriptwriting ability, with a knack for shaping pacing, tone, and story arc, especially in host-driven formats.
  • A collaborative, consultative working style and the ability to plug into existing teams to help elevate their visual presence.
  • A deep understanding of video platform ecosystems (YouTube, TikTok, Reels), including what drives performance, how users engage, and what makes shows grow.

If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch! We would love to have a chat and see if you could be a great addition to our team. We've hired chefs who became editors, DJs who became UX designers, and sommeliers who became writers.
