Job description

Description
Position at Hamburg Veterinary Clinic
Veterinary Practice Manager
Hamburg Veterinary Clinic - Hamburg, NJ
There are practices that are humming along just fine, and then there are practices where a strong leader can make a huge difference. Hamburg Veterinary Clinic is looking for that person.
For more than 40 years, Hamburg Veterinary Clinic has cared for pets throughout Hamburg and Sussex County. Our four-doctor practice has a lot going for it: a dedicated team, a strong reputation in the community, and a commitment to quality medicine. We've also recently invested in the hospital itself, with renovations and an update to paperless medical records helping us modernize the way we work.
Now, we're looking for an experienced Practice Manager who can help bring everything together and keep the hospital moving confidently in the right direction.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys being part of the action. You'll work closely with the Medical Director and hospital team to build consistency, strengthen communication, develop people, improve workflows, and create an environment where both the team and the practice can thrive.
In other words: we need someone who can lead the ship, not just admire the ship from the shore.
What You'll Do
You'll have a lot of influence over how the hospital operates day to day. That means leading and developing a team of approximately 15+ people, supporting staff development, and helping create the kind of workplace where people know what's expected of them and feel supported in getting there.
You'll partner with the Medical Director on scheduling, patient care, and hospital priorities, while also keeping an eye on the less glamorous-but very important-parts of running a successful practice. Purchasing, facility needs, compliance, budgeting, staffing, and those inevitable "well, that wasn't on the schedule" moments will all cross your desk.
There's also an opportunity to help grow the hospital's Urgent Care services and strengthen its presence in the local community. We're looking for someone who can think creatively about marketing, client growth, and ways to make Hamburg Veterinary Clinic the place people think of when their pets need care.
Most importantly, you'll be someone the team can count on. You'll set clear expectations, address problems instead of letting them linger, recognize good work, and help build a culture of accountability and teamwork.
What We're Looking For
You don't need to check every box, but you should bring meaningful veterinary management experience (at least three years is preferred) and a genuine interest in leading people and improving a practice.
The right person will be:
  • A confident, approachable leader who isn't afraid to make decisions
  • Comfortable coaching, developing, and holding team members accountable
  • Organized enough to keep the many moving pieces of a veterinary hospital moving
  • A strong problem solver who can stay calm when things inevitably get a little chaotic
  • Interested in both the people side and business side of veterinary medicine
  • Comfortable looking at budgets, revenue, KPIs, and operational goals
  • Experienced with veterinary marketing or interested in helping grow the practice
  • Someone who sees challenges as things to fix, not things to work around forever

A background as a technician or aCVPM is a plus, but not required. SHRM-CP, BS, MBA, or other advanced education is also welcome.
Why Hamburg Veterinary Clinic?
This is a chance to step into a practice with a strong history and help shape what comes next. Recent renovations and the move toward paperless medical records are part of that investment, but there's more work to do-and that's where you come in.
You'll have support from UVC's Learning & Development team, CVPM resources and mentorship, and area and regional leadership opportunities as you grow.
And yes, we know that managing a veterinary hospital is not exactly a nine-to-five job where everyone politely does what they're supposed to do. That's why we're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys leadership, problem-solving, and helping teams become better versions of themselves.
Benefits & Perks
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options
  • 401(k) with company match, eligible after 6 months
  • PTO (full time)
  • Company-sponsored Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Referral Bonus
  • Employee Pet Care Discount
  • Profit Sharing Program
  • CVPM support and mentorship
  • Growth opportunities, including area and regional leadership roles
  • Opportunities for Fear Free certification and Recover CPR training
  • Flexible Spending Account and Health Savings Account options
