Job Title: Vascular Physician Assistant

Department: Vascular & Interventional Radiology / Vascular Surgery
Reports To: Lead Vascular Surgeon / Medical Director
Works Closely With: Vascular Interventional Radiologists, Vascular Surgeons, Clinical Staff, and Center Manager
Status: Full-Time | Exempt


Position Summary

The Vascular Physician Assistant (PA) functions as an advanced practice clinician embedded within a multidisciplinary vascular care team comprised of vascular interventional radiologists and vascular surgeons. This role supports the full continuum of vascular patient care, spanning outpatient clinic operations, vein treatment procedures, and wound care management. The Vascular PA delivers high-quality, patient-centered care under the collaborative supervision of the physician team, contributing to clinical efficiency, patient outcomes, and the overall operational success of the practice.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Operations — Outpatient Clinic

  • Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations including history and physical examinations for new and established vascular patients
  • Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic imaging, laboratory studies, and vascular duplex ultrasound results in collaboration with the supervising physician
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment and care plans in coordination with the vascular surgery and interventional radiology team
  • Manage pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing vascular and interventional procedures
  • Perform medication management, prescription writing, and patient counseling on diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up expectations
  • Document all clinical encounters accurately and in a timely manner within the electronic health record (EHR) system
  • Triage urgent patient concerns and coordinate with the physician team to ensure timely and appropriate clinical response
  • Support patient flow and clinic efficiency, helping to minimize delays and optimize the daily schedule

Vein Treatments

  • Assist in the evaluation and treatment of patients presenting with venous insufficiency, varicose veins, spider veins, and related venous disorders
  • Perform or assist with office-based vein procedures including but not limited to sclerotherapy, endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), and ultrasound-guided procedures under physician supervision
  • Conduct pre- and post-procedure assessments, patient education, and follow-up care for vein treatment patients
  • Maintain working knowledge of current venous treatment protocols, technologies, and best practices

Wound Care

  • Evaluate and manage patients with complex vascular wounds including arterial ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, diabetic foot wounds, and post-surgical wounds
  • Develop and execute evidence-based wound care treatment plans, including appropriate dressing selection, debridement support, and offloading strategies
  • Monitor wound healing progress, document outcomes, and adjust care plans as clinically indicated
  • Coordinate with the vascular team and external providers (wound care specialists, podiatry, infectious disease) as needed to ensure comprehensive wound management
  • Educate patients and caregivers on wound care techniques, prevention strategies, and when to seek urgent care

Procedural Assistance

  • Assist vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists in clinic-based and surgery center procedures as needed
  • Support pre-procedural preparation, intraoperative assistance, and post-procedural monitoring and documentation
  • Maintain proficiency in sterile technique and procedural protocols relevant to vascular and interventional cases

Collaboration & Communication

  • Function as an integral member of the multidisciplinary vascular care team, participating in case discussions, care coordination, and clinical decision-making
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, referring providers, and internal team members to ensure continuity and quality of care
  • Support care transitions, referrals, and coordination with external specialists, hospitals, and ancillary services

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program, required
  • Current PA licensure in the State of California, required
  • Current DEA registration, required or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, required
  • Minimum 2–4 years of clinical PA experience, preferably in vascular surgery, interventional radiology, cardiovascular care, or a related surgical/procedural specialty
  • Proficiency in EHR documentation and clinical workflow systems
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multi-provider clinical environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCCPA board certification (PANRE current), required; CAQ-Surgery or relevant specialty certification a plus
  • Experience with endovenous vein treatments including sclerotherapy, EVLA, or RFA
  • Experience in outpatient wound care management for vascular patient populations
  • Familiarity with vascular duplex ultrasound interpretation
  • Prior experience working alongside vascular surgeons and/or interventional radiologists in an ambulatory or surgery center setting
