SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing the management of daily network transportation operations activity.   Ensure timely transportation, adequate capacity, and optimal transportation costs to facilitate assured supply objectives. Drive process/performance improvement by assisting in the tracking of carrier/lane level performance through KPI report reviews, assisting in carrier management, team issue management and resolution, supervisory support and guidance, and relationship building.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Transportation Operations

  • Manage and support of all transportation operations inbound to Armada’s redistribution facilities, inbound to our customer’s distribution centers and inbound to manufacturing centers to ensure service, capacity and cost objectives are met
  • Monitor and address service underperformance at the operations level within our carrier base. Develop plans in conjunction with Transportation Procurement and Field Services for corrective actions to ensure performance objectives are achieved
    • Utilize SpotFire reporting to provide supporting data on carrier lane underperformance
  • Provide transportation management expertise and input to assist in the management of current accounts as well as the roll outs of new customer service offerings
  • Responsible for all the skill and educational development of direct reports including coordination of the new hire orientations
    • Ensure that direct reports are utilizing 24Tracc Loads at Risk application and carrier web sites to identify at-risk shipments
  • Overseeing that all Transportation Analyst Responsibilities are completed and that we are appropriately coaching our team for future development
  • Identify opportunity areas and work with Trans Ops Management Team to plan out annual improvement projects

Performance

  • Proactively coordinate the monitoring of carrier performance levels and facilitate performance improvement calls with carriers consistently falling below the minimum 95% on time threshold
  • Proactively monitor and evaluate customer service levels for carrier, shipping and receiving locations and support the development and implementation action plans for improvements
  • Develop plans in conjunction with Transportation Procurement and Field Services for corrective actions to ensure budget and performance objectives are achieved
  • Support Transportation Analysts to maintain Established Performance Levels for:
    • On-time Pickup
    • On-time Delivery
    • Carrier Tender Accept
    • LXP Tender Performance

Relationship Management 

  • Assist in facilitating process improvements at shippers and receivers related to transportation process exceptions and appointment scheduling
  • Support internal and external operational relationships with the following:
    • Suppliers
    • Carriers
    • DCs
    • Clients
    • Actively coach our Teams to help them develop the ability to maintain proper communication within the network
    • Ensure that operational and performance issues are escalated, as required, to achieve the desired service levels
    • Coordinate with Procurement, Account Managers, and Field Services to improve carrier, and shipping and receiving location service levels
    • Participate in weekly carrier service calls, as necessary
    • Ensure that the Assistant Managers participate in carrier and supplier on-boarding calls, as necessary
    • Support the collaboration during the daily 9AM morning Operations Call

    Team Development

    • Participate in the interview process when hiring new team members
    • Support the skill and educational development of direct reports including assistance in the new hire orientations/training
    • Conduct Quarterly reviews with the Transportation Analysts, Senior Supply Chain Coordinators, and other direct reports
    • Participate and Conduct, as appropriate, the initial 60-day, Mid Year and Annual Team Member coaching sessions

    Process Improvement

    • Oversee the analysis of existing shipping processes for possible improvements
    • Provide support for various implementation plans to effect ongoing productivity improvement
    • Work with Analysts and Senior Supply Chain Coordinators to reduce year over year spend by managing total transportation costs, including accessorial management
    • Other related duties as assigned
    • Travel to Suppliers, Carriers and DC’s as needed

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience Requirement

    Minimum:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field – Business, Supply Chain, Communications, and Logistics preferred
    • 3-5 years of transportation experience
    • Previous supervisory experience required.

    Preferred:

    • Master’s degree in related field – Business, Supply Chain, and Logistics preferred.

    Experience:

    • Experience in managing multi-temp freight and all transportation modes.

    Language and Technical Skills requirement

    • Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook & Access, TMS applications
    • Ability to interface with other functional areas including carrier management.
    • Thorough understanding of surface transportation management terms and concepts
    • Proven analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
