Position Summary
The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Tenure-track faculty appointment in Business/Accounting.
Full-time faculty at UNM-LA are required to teach, engage in service, and engage in professional development activities in accordance with the established workload policies. The teaching load will regularly be comprised of courses in Business and Accounting such as Introduction to Business, Business Software such as QuickBooks and Excel, Managerial Accounting, and, possibly, courses in related disciplines based on the candidate's qualifications and interests. To meet the unique needs of our branch campus, a portion of the teaching load can be reallocated to Service or Professional development/Activities/Scholarship or administrative duties, in consultation with the Dean and Program Coordinator. Faculty may have the opportunity to develop courses in the faculty member's specific areas of expertise and interest. Full-time faculty members teach assigned day, evening, and weekend classes, in various modalities, in accordance with established guidelines and policies, as well as participate in student advising, faculty governance committees, other academic and institutional support activities, and supervisory responsibilities as assigned.
All faculty members are expected to remain current in teaching best practices and transformational pedagogy, and to adhere to accepted standards for professionals in education. Additional responsibilities may include possible supervision of internships, participating in curriculum development, training and mentoring adjunct faculty, attending forums and meetings, participating in initiatives related to undergraduate research, grant-writing, and serving on additional department and college committees and boards as requested. Final offer is contingent upon the applicant having the ability to be on campus in Los Alamos at least three days per week. Appointment begins August 10, 2026.
SALARY:
Starting salary is commensurate with degrees and experience. Base salary for 1.0 FTE is $65,000 for a 9-month faculty position, depending on qualifications. Summer teaching may be possible and optional with additional compensation. An excellent package of benefits is provided (see: https://hr.unm.edu/benefits).
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
(1) Master's degree in Accounting with 15+ graduate hours in Business by application date
OR
Master's degree in Business with 15+ graduate hours in Accounting by application date
Preferred Qualifications:
(1) Ph.D. in Accounting with 15+ graduate hours in Business or PhD. in Business with 15+ graduate hours in Accounting by application date
(2) Evidence of progress/learning in Business or Accounting.
(3) Industry experience such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license, CMA (Certified Management Accountant) license or project management experience
(4) Experience teaching business or accounting lecture courses at a post-secondary institution
(5) Experience with business and project management-related software such as QuickBooks, Oracle Primavera, MS Office Suite
(6) A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
