Power the Precision Behind Every Shipment

TOTE Maritime Alaska is seeking a highly detail-oriented and analytical Rate Specialist to join our team in Tacoma, Washington. 

In this role, you will serve as a critical link between our customers, operations, and billing teams by ensuring shipment documentation, cargo rating, invoicing, and customer transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. Your work directly supports the reliable movement of freight between the Lower 48 and Alaska while helping deliver the high level of service our customers depend on.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems, supporting customers, and collaborating across multiple departments in a fast-paced transportation environment.


What You’ll Do
  • Manage customer transactions including shipment documentation, cargo rating, pre-auditing, invoicing, and issue resolution.
  • Review and process shipment documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain shipment records and supporting documentation to ensure data integrity and audit readiness.
  • Research and resolve billing, rating, documentation, and cargo discrepancies.
  • Partner with Operations, Customer Service, Sales, Finance, and other internal teams to ensure seamless shipment processing.
  • Educate customers on documentation requirements, shipment processes, and service-related inquiries.
  • Develop an understanding of customer business needs and recommend appropriate solutions when issues arise.
  • Process and support military cargo bookings, manifests, and related documentation requirements.
  • Run, review, and audit reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor trends, service issues, and customer concerns and communicate findings to leadership as appropriate.
  • Perform detailed data entry and maintain accurate records across internal systems.
  • Support department initiatives and process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and customer service.

What We’re Looking ForRequired Qualifications
  • One to three years of experience in customer service, billing, transportation, logistics, documentation, or related administrative roles.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately process large volumes of information.
  • Experience working with invoices, documentation, data entry, or transaction processing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Business, Logistics, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, maritime, freight, or supply chain operations.
  • Knowledge of freight documentation, cargo rating, billing, or tariff administration.
  • Familiarity with transportation management, billing, or ERP systems.
  • Experience supporting military, government, or regulated freight operations.

Compensation & BenefitsCompensation
  • The salary range is $40,000 to $67,000 with an expected target salary of $50,000 to $52,000 per year. Pay will be based on several factors including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, and specific job duties
