Title: MOUNT PARAN ARTS TECHNICAL THEATER ASSISTANT
Reports to: Director of Arts / Technical Director
Full-Time / NON-EXEMPT


Qualifications

Demonstrated interest or foundational experience in technical theater, including areas such as set construction, painting, lighting, or stage operations; technical theater coursework, training, or hands-on experience preferred but not required; willingness to learn and develop skills in shop tools, rigging, lighting, and stage production; basic understanding of safe work practices in a theater or shop environment or willingness to be trained; positive, team-player with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; strong organizational skills and ability to manage tasks within a production timeline; flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, event-driven environment; ability to work both independently and collaboratively; interest in working with and supporting students in a learning environment.


Lighting design and operation experience is a plus; familiarity with lighting systems such as the ETC Ion lighting console or similar platforms is helpful; interest in assisting with lighting maintenance, patching, and basic troubleshooting; experience with basic digital tools (MAC, Microsoft, and Google) for organization and tracking; support or run audio for smaller events (training provided). Job includes potential for additional supplemental, hourly income for facility rentals.


Job Description

The Mount Paran Arts Technical Assistant supports the daily technical operations of the arts program, assisting in the preparation and execution of theatrical productions, school events, and instructional activities. This includes support in set construction, painting, stage operations, lighting, and general theater maintenance. The Technical Assistant works closely with the Technical Director and production team while also supporting Stagecraft classes and working with students in hands-on production settings.

Requirements:

Physicial Requirements

Lifting equipment, tools, and materials typically not exceeding 20โ€“30 lbs; ability to stand for extended periods; ability to bend, kneel, crawl, and work in tight or elevated spaces; ability to work in environments with loud noise (power tools, performances); personal protective equipment is provided and required as appropriate.


Responsibilities

The Mount Paran Arts Technical Assistant responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
โ€ข Assist with set construction, painting, and general shop tasks
โ€ข Support safe rigging and installation of scenic elements (training provided as needed)
โ€ข Maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety of theater and shop spaces
โ€ข Serve on stage or front-of-house crews for performances and events
โ€ข Support lighting setup, basic operation, and strike for productions and events
โ€ข Assist with maintaining and organizing tools, equipment, and supplies
โ€ข Co-support Stagecraft classes alongside the Technical Director and work with students daily
โ€ข Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student teams to support productions and events
โ€ข Maintain awareness of event schedules and demonstrate flexibility with evening and weekend work as needed
โ€ข Participate as a member of the production team in planning and execution of events
โ€ข Ensure compliance with safety standards and proper equipment handling practices
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Director or Director of Arts
