What are some common challenges faced by full time teen video editors, and how can they be overcome?

Full-time teen video editors often encounter challenges such as balancing school responsibilities with work deadlines, adapting to rapidly changing content trends, and building credibility in a professional environment at a young age. To overcome these challenges, it's important to develop strong time-management skills, stay updated with industry-standard editing tools, and actively seek feedback from peers or mentors. Establishing clear communication with supervisors about availability and workload can also help ensure a healthy work-life balance and foster a supportive team environment.

What does a full time teen video editor do?

A Full Time Teen Video Editor is typically a young individual, often still in high school or college, who works full-time editing video content for clients or employers. Their responsibilities include cutting and arranging video footage, adding effects, transitions, music, and graphics, and ensuring the final product meets the desired style and quality standards. Teen video editors may work for social media influencers, YouTubers, companies, or creative agencies, and are often skilled at using editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work within deadlines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time teen video editor?

To thrive as a Full Time Teen Video Editor, you need a solid grasp of video editing fundamentals, storytelling, and visual composition, often demonstrated through a strong portfolio rather than formal qualifications. Familiarity with industry-standard editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve is essential, and certifications in these tools can be beneficial. Creativity, attention to detail, time management, and the ability to interpret feedback help set standout editors apart in collaborative environments. These skills ensure high-quality, engaging video content that meets deadlines and client expectations in a competitive digital landscape.

Job description

WaitWhat is a media company producing podcasts, video, live events, and unique partnership experiences all aimed at elevating the boldest voices in business. Our mission is to provide people with the ideas, information, and inspiration they need to reach their full potential in their lives and careers.

Our media properties—downloaded more than 130 million times—have defined new genres in business (Masters of Scale with Jeff Berman, Rapid Response with Bob Safian) and technology (Pioneers of AI with Rana el Kaliouby).

We share hard-won wisdom from today’s most iconic figures to emerging innovators, sparking curiosity and helping people reach their highest potential. WaitWhat’s approach to content is unique in the industry, with a passion for pioneering new business models and forging inventive partnerships that extend our impact.

About The Role

WaitWhat is looking for a versatile, strategic Video Editor to create best-in-class video content across our properties, reporting to the Director of Digital Marketing and Video. You’ll edit across the full range of our video output: long-form podcast episodes, short-form social clips, sizzle reels, and live event visuals, collaborating closely with our content, marketing, production, live events, and design teams.

This role requires a deep appreciation for visual and audio storytelling, a self-starting mindset, and the ability to bring your own creative interpretation and ideas while remaining true to each property’s editorial guidelines.
Responsibilities
  • Edit and finalize full-length podcast episodes, short-form social clips, sizzle reels, and on-brand visual content for TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and newsletters

  • Collaborate with content, marketing, and production teams to adapt podcast content into native video formats

  • Ensure high-quality video deliveries across all projects and platforms

  • Work with the live events team to create visually dynamic content for on-stage playback and associated digital formats

  • Explore new and innovative ways to tell stories across WaitWhat’s social channels

  • Curate, source, and organize required assets for final video delivery, including music, SFX, design, and b-roll

  • Apply graphic elements to videos using brand guidelines defined by the WaitWhat design team

  • Add and QC captions across all video content

  • Provide post-production services including color correction, audio cleanup, light mixing, media management (transcoding, asset curation), and platform deliveries

  • Receive and prioritize inbound video editing requests, clarifying requirements, specs, and deadlines with each requester

  • Deliver projects on quick turnaround timelines while maintaining high technical quality

  • Perform quality control checks before publishing or delivering any video content

  • Maintain clear, consistent communication to support a collaborative and creative work environment

Requirements
  • 3–5 years of proven video editing experience for social and digital platforms

  • Strong proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro, with a working knowledge of video and audio encoding, standards, and formats

  • Experience with structured media file management using platforms like Iconik, LucidLink, Frame.io, Google Drive, or Dropbox

  • Experience with project management tools like ClickUp

  • Proficiency in animation and motion graphics using After Effects, Motion, or similar tools

  • Experience formatting and troubleshooting video assets for social media platforms

  • Experience in color correction for all video types

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Fast and eager learner with critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, and multitasking skills

  • Deep understanding of digital trends, with a point of view on what will engage and grow audiences

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in other areas of video production, including storyboarding, producing, and GFX

  • Basic audio and sound mixing knowledge

  • Familiarity with special effects, 3D, and compositing

The final compensation for this position will depend on various factors, including the candidate's experience, skills, qualifications, and geographical location, as well as internal equity and market considerations. Please note that salary ranges are periodically reviewed and may be adjusted based on evolving business needs or changes in market conditions.

We are a fully distributed team working across the US, with a concentration of colleagues that gather regularly in LA and NYC. We are open to hiring anywhere in the US. We offer wellness benefits to full-time employees, including Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance, disability and life Insurance, and a flexible PTO policy among other perks. We’re an anti-racist organization, committed to equity and diversity of all kinds — on our team, among our investors, and as represented on our media properties. Kindness and honesty are hallmarks of our culture and critical filters in our hiring process.
