Description
Under the Supervision of the Executive Director, the Food Service Manager prepares nutritious and attractive meals for students and members while maintaining a clean kitchen and observing all health department regulations to create a safe and healthy work environment.
Essential Functions include:
  • Knowledge of Federal guidelines for Child Nutrition Program, Summer Food Serving Program and CACFP and all applicable District, state, local, and federal laws, rules, and regulations, and ensure compliance.
  • Experience or knowledge as a short-order cook
  • Knowledge and follows all safety and sanitary rules and regulations related to food handling.
  • Maintains food service equipment, utensils, storage areas, food preparation, and serving areas in a sanitary condition in compliance with current health standards.
  • Assist with implementing the menu plans according to daily nutrition requirements; check prepared foods for flavor, appearance, and temperature according to requirements.
  • Inventory, verify supply delivery and accuracy, and rotate into existing stock.
  • Help with daily meal counts and production records; regularly check and maintain records of fridge and freezer temperatures in compliance with CACFP Regulations.
  • Cook and serve students' meals while maintaining awareness of students' allergies and food restrictions.
  • Report safety, sanitary, fire hazards, and other concerns to the supervisor promptly.
  • Follow and maintain knowledge of all YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and proper grooming.
  • Professionally represent the program and interact thoughtfully and courteously with parents, students, staff, volunteers, and the community.
  • Participate in training connected to the food program
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and attend in-service trainings and staff meetings.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least two years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience working in a school setting, in a food service position or with students is strongly preferred.
  • Possession of current ServSafe Certification and Allergen Awareness Training strongly preferred. Otherwise must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work well with others from diverse backgrounds, skillful in solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, able to make sound judgments and decisions, work independently with minimum supervision, problem solve, maintain composure in stressful situations and a great team player and positive role model for others.
  • Able to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English, effectively present information and respond effectively to questions one-on-one or in a group setting. Able to read and interpret documents, instructions, manuals and write routine reports.
  • Mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals and able to compute rate, ratio, percent and volume.
  • General knowledge of computer usage and proficient with MS Word, MS Excel and Outlook.

Job Type: Full-time (Non-Exempt)
Schedule: Mondays through Fridays from 8:00am - 4:30pm
Pay: $24.00/hr with generous PTO, access to YMCA facilities for all YMCA employees, Medical, Dental, Disability, Life, Vision, & Pet Insurance, and ability to participate 403b Retirement Savings Plan.
