Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead Audio Engineer in our Miramar, FL. location. In this role, you will be responsible for being a key technical contributor in loudspeaker development for significant new applications of the JL AUDIO brand and serving as a mentor and providing guidance to less experienced engineers.
Essential Functions
  • Serves as a key contributor in the creation and review of loudspeaker products, risky designs, and other aspects of product development for the JL AUDIO brand.
  • Explores new technologies, features and functions; understands and outlines associate challenges/risks
  • Utilizes advanced testing capabilities and knowledge of materials to customize existing or develop new test methods to substantiate unverified aspects of products design
  • Interprets industry and Garmin product qualification tests and their relevance and impact on product design, sharing knowledge with mechanical design team members
  • Completes estimates on complex loudspeaker designs including tooling, part cost and design time
  • Negotiates processes, materials and design feasibility with factory and vendors
  • Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced audio engineers (Audio Engineer 1, 2, & Senior Audio Engineers)
  • May lead major explorations of product development project consisting of multiple modules or sub-projects
  • Demonstrates broad knowledge of Garmin's business model, operations, production, sales and marketing
  • Offers process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate
  • Provides significant contribution to design reviews across multiple product types
  • Completes broadly defined complex tasks including taking conceptual ideas and putting them to practice
  • Regularly demonstrates creativity and ingenuity to develop reliable solutions to complex problems
  • Associates are expected to integrate, use, and provide feedback on products in development when possible as part of their normal job responsibilities

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering AND a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Loudspeaker design experience.
