Full Time Tech Stack information

What are some common challenges faced when working with a full-time tech stack role, and how can they be addressed?

In a full-time tech stack role, professionals often encounter challenges related to keeping up with rapidly evolving technologies, integrating new tools with legacy systems, and managing complex project requirements across multiple platforms. To address these, it's important to actively participate in continuous learning, collaborate closely with team members from various specialties, and leverage documentation and communication tools to streamline workflows. Regular code reviews and cross-functional meetings can also help ensure alignment and promote best practices across the stack.

What is the difference between Full Time Tech Stack vs Part Time Tech Stack?

AspectFull Time Tech StackPart Time Tech Stack
Work HoursTypically 35-40 hours per weekLess than 20 hours per week
Employment StatusFull-time employeePart-time employee or contractor
CredentialsOften requires relevant certifications or experienceMay require similar skills but less experience needed
Work EnvironmentIn-office or remote, integrated into teamFlexible, often remote or freelance

Full Time Tech Stack roles involve working standard hours as a dedicated employee, often with benefits and team integration. Part Time Tech Stack positions offer flexibility with fewer hours, suitable for freelancers or those balancing other commitments. Both roles require similar technical skills, but full-time roles typically demand more experience and certifications.

What is a Full Time Tech Stack?

A Full Time Tech Stack refers to the combination of programming languages, frameworks, libraries, and tools used by developers who work full-time in technology roles. This tech stack typically includes both front-end (client-side) and back-end (server-side) technologies that enable the development, deployment, and maintenance of software applications. The specific stack can vary by company or project, but common examples include the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js) or LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). Having a defined tech stack helps teams streamline development processes and maintain consistency across projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Stack Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Developer, you need proficiency in both front-end (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks) and back-end (e.g., Node.js, Python, databases) technologies, usually supported by a degree in computer science or relevant experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms, and containerization tools is commonly required, along with certifications such as AWS Certified Developer or Microsoft Azure certifications. Problem-solving ability, effective communication, and adaptability are critical soft skills that set top performers apart. These competencies are crucial for building robust, scalable applications and collaborating efficiently across teams in dynamic tech environments.

Job description

Substack is building a new economic engine for culture, giving the brightest, most interesting, and most creative people on the internet the power of their own publishing platform. The terms of our culture should not be set by gate-keeping legacy media or chaos-fueling social media, but by the people who make and participate in that culture. Substack's model, based on direct subscriptions, has fueled an explosion of independent publishing. It empowers creators with economic autonomy, creative ownership, and a direct connection to their most engaged audiences.

We're looking for a Full Stack Developer to join our Enterprise team. You'll be responsible for building and supporting features that empower the world's most ambitious media founders to build on Substack. As a member of our Enterprise team, you'll work in close partnership with designers, product thinkers, and customers to build new mobile offerings and improve critical user journeys. You'll be on the front-lines of product development, running experiments and iterating rapidly to grow our platform and create what's next for Substack!

Responsibilities

- Build features across Substack to support user activation and conversion.

- Iterate on key user flows in Substack, and run A/B tests to improve activation metrics and drive growth.

- Collaborate with designers, writers, support staff, and many others. From product concept and research to implementation, experimentation, and measurement, we expect you to own your work and deliver high-quality solutions.

- Work directly with customers to solve their problems. The entire company (CEO included) participates in customer support in order to drive empathy for our users and help us build better products.

- Our tech stack includes Typescript, Node/Express, React, Postgres, Redis, and DynamoDB. Itโ€™s helpful if youโ€™re familiar with some of these already, if not, weโ€™ll be excited to help you learn.

Requirements

- At least 2-8 years of software engineering experience with full stack development.

- Independent and autonomous. We're too small to micromanage, and expect that every person at the company owns their work and can be a leader.

- Hold yourself and others to a high standard when working on production systems.

- Take pride in building elegant and delightful product experiences. Substack works best when it gets out of the way so creators can focus on writing and connecting with their readers.

- Enjoy collaboration with a diverse group of thinkers while bringing your own unique experience and background to the team.

- Believe in Substack's mission to build a better business model for writing.

- Have a degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.

- Experience at a fast-growing startup or working on a high-performing growth/activation team is not required, but is a plus.

Substack's compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation salary range for this role is $140,000 - $260,000. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Substack is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or transgender status), age, national origin, veteran or disability status. Weโ€™re seeking people passionate about enabling independent expression and building a better business model for creators. If you want to see what media, communities, and content can become when unmoored from advertising models, and you have the skills and experience to contribute, weโ€™d love to meet you.
