The Apogee School for the Gifted is a small, private, accredited school in Indianapolis that serves gifted children in grades K-12. The classes consist of high-ability and twice-exceptional students who learn best in active, hands-on environments. Many students are working multiple grades ahead in at least one subject. Apogee School is looking for highly motivated upper level teaching assistants for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate has experience working with high-ability adolescents and preadolescents or in a Montessori/active-learning based school.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a teaching assistant, paraprofessional, or substitute teacher
- Experience/appreciation of gifted/high-ability preadolescents and adolescents
- Experience working in a dynamic, team-based environment
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous work with special education students (e.g. autism, ADHD, dyslexia)
- Previous work supporting socioemotional curriculum/programs
Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant will include:
- Assisting our Grade 5-6 and/or 7-9 homeroom teacher by supporting lessons, providing additional supervision, and supporting 1:1 student needs.
- Working with 5-6 and/or 7-9 students in reading, writing, and math interventions.
- Teaching additional electives based on personal specialties
- Serving as a fun, relatable mentor to all students in the school.
- Reporting directly to the teachers and principal regarding student behavioral and socioemotional challenges.
- Other student supervision and support duties as assigned.
The maximum class size at Apogee is 12. Hours run 8 am to 4pm, Mon-Fri. 40 hours per week. Possible advancement opportunities available.
