Job description

Structural Steel Estimator – Structural, Bridges & Misc. Metals

Egger Steel Company | [Sioux Falls, SD] | Full-Time | $25–$29/hour | Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM

Egger Steel has been the Upper Midwest's leading structural steel fabricator for over 80 years — and we're growing. We're hiring a Structural Steel Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive bids across commercial building and bridge/infrastructure projects. If you can read structural drawings, run a takeoff, and put together a winning proposal, we want to talk.

This is a high-visibility role that directly drives new business — you'll work alongside project managers, detailers, and leadership from preconstruction through project completion.

What You'll Do
  • Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs from structural, architectural, and bridge drawings

  • Prepare complete cost estimates for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and bridge fabrication scopes

  • Build and submit competitive bids and proposals to general contractors and owners

  • Communicate directly with contractors, vendors, engineers, and internal teams to clarify scope and pricing

  • Track bid opportunities, plan holders, and project schedules

  • Support change orders and pricing questions after award, through project completion

What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years of experience in steel estimating, structural detailing, construction estimating, or a related field (fabrication or erection experience also considered)

  • Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and bridge drawings and specifications

  • Working knowledge of AISC standards and structural steel fabrication practices a plus

  • Comfortable with estimating/takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, FabTrol, SDS2, or similar) preferred, but not required

  • Strong math, attention to detail, and time-management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines at once

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field a plus — but relevant experience is what matters most

Why Join Egger Steel
  • You'll own a piece of the company — 100% employee-owned via our ESOP

  • Steady, diverse backlog spanning commercial buildings and bridge/infrastructure work

  • 80+ year track record and reputation as a regional leader in steel fabrication

  • Stable, Monday–Friday schedule with occasional overtime as project needs dictate

Benefits
  • Employer-paid medical coverage — 75% for the whole family

  • 401(k) with 3% employer contribution

  • Dental, vision, life, and supplemental insurance options

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)

  • Paid holidays, vacation, and sick time

  • Employee Assistance Program
