The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.
As a Systems Engineer on a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will define, capture and manage mission-specific system requirements and verification artifacts within the Mission Systems Engineering, Integration & Test organization, working closely with other system, software, hardware and integration & test engineers to establish the technical requirements and architecture baseline and help ensure the successful verification of unique Blue Ring Spacecraft missions and customer needs. This position reports to the Mission SEIT Requirements, Verification & Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Architecture Director for the space mobility product line. You will work at a spacecraft mission & system level with a focus on using modern MBSE and requirements management standards to capture Blue Ring architectural product line variants, including all critical spacecraft bus, ground system and payload requirements and interfaces, in a model-based environment in support of maturing the Blue Ring Digital Thread. This role will begin with a first-of-its-kind space vehicle in development and grow with the product line through multiple missions and objectives.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate with the Blue Ring Mission Lead Systems Engineers, Spacecraft Systems Engineering, Flight Software, Payload & Mission Integration, and Ground Systems Engineering Teams to define system requirements in a model-based environment across multiple customers and missions
  • Engage with internal and external customers, including government agencies and contractors, to perform analysis of unique customer and mission requirements
  • Perform as the lead Requirements & Verification Systems Engineer for specific Blue Ring missions, including all aspects of requirement decomposition, derivation, and allocation
  • Develop and manage requirement specifications, including internal and external interfaces, with accurate flow-down and traceability
  • Understand and define the relationships and traceability between requirements, design parameters, technical budgets, ICDs, program plans, and technical performance measures
  • Establish verification approaches and plans for system requirements and identify Integration and Test activities required for successful requirements selloff
  • Work across organizational boundaries to manage the successful acquisition of verification data necessary to show compliance to system requirements
  • Perform compliance and traceability assessments and be able to report key metrics and issues effectively to program leadership and stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent technical field
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Jama, etc.
  • 3+ years of Systems Engineering experience performing activities such as requirements definition, traceability, interface definition, design documentation, integration, verification, and validation
  • Understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and the "Systems Engineering V"
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Active US Government Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Spacecraft operations, command & control system experience, including familiarity with spacecraft and ground-system internal and external interfaces and/or spacecraft communications uplink and downlink technologies
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering
  • Familiarity with System Modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, or Rhapsody
  • Experience across the product life cycle (pre-conceptual design through operational support)
  • Software or scripting language experience
  • Knowledge of collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Familiarity with formal risk and opportunity management processes
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture or a related discipline

Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
