Job description

Position Summary – Department Lead – Apparel Surf, Apparel and Accessories 

The Ledge have an immediate opening for a Department Lead for Surf, Apparel and Accessories. The primary responsibilities of the Department Lead are to provide excellent and knowledgeable customer service, work with management to execute department goals, and keep the store stocked, clean and organized, and processing sales transactions through both delegation and action.

The Ledge is a boutique, beach style outfitter shop operating within Turner Ace Hardware specializing in fine apparel and footwear, paddle boarding equipment and fishing gear from brands like  Faherty, Tommy Bahama, Johnny O,  Olukai, Rainbow, Reef, Free Fly, Pelagic, Costa, Maui Jim and Rayban, to name a few.   

Major Responsibilities 

  • Provide enjoyable, knowledgeable, and friendly service to our customers.  
  • Maintain awareness of our products, merchandise promotions and advertisements 
  • Become a brand expert for our products in order to elevate the customer experience 
  • Working with other store associates to keep our store clean, organized, and visually appealing.  
  • Ensure the department is stocked, clean and ready for business every day through delegation and action. This includes a clear sales floor, organized and accurate signage. 
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures, is a safety role model. 
  • Provide direction and guidance to associates to ensure effective execution of operational programs.  
  • Maintain accurate record keeping including records of individual sales for commissioned product 
  • Effectively delegate tasks to associates to ensure productivity and efficiency through both action and task management software 
  • Develop the weekly work schedule for the department 
  • Train current and new associates in basic store functions and implement training programs as needed. 
  • Monitor basic and seasonal merchandise displays to maximize sales and profit; also review the stock room and bin areas daily, identifying  back stock to bring to the sales floor, new items to display, etc.  
  • Ensure daily inventory management tasks are completed including research into products with defects 
  • Processing sales transactions in a quick and friendly manner 
  • Adhere to loss prevention, inventory control and compliance procedures 
  • Other duties assigned by management 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Must be able to work a schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and evenings.  
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in all situations 
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills 
  • Ability to lead and develop others 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with a high attention to detail 
  • Basic computer skills 
  • A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction 
  • Solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to stand/walk for an extended period of time 
  • Move and handle heavy boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the warehouse and store, which entails bending, twisting, lifting, etc. and perform all functions as set forth by the business
