Your work environment at EXP
In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of the Midwest Bridge Department Manager with a focus on highway, railway and transit structures including bridge, culverts and retaining walls. Project types will be diverse and include repair, rehabilitation and new construction for clients such as IDOT, CDOT, WisDOT, Tollway, Metra and CTA.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
  • Lead the structural design for all project types, including complex bridge designs.
  • Lead the planning and schematic/geometric layout of new structures.
  • Perform analysis and design calculations according to the applicable design codes; use computer programs as appropriate.
  • Prepare plan drawings and details, construction specifications and design calculations.
  • Lead or perform on-site inspection, analysis, and condition assessment of existing structures.
  • Prepare cost estimates, perform life cycle cost analysis and load rating calculations.
  • Perform construction administration functions including site visits, review of shop drawings and answering field related inquiries.
  • Supervise and direct staff engineers and technicians to meet project deadlines as well as scope and budget requirements.
  • Assist project managers with scoping and budgeting for structural work and be responsible for quality assurance of deliverables.

The Skills, Knowledge and Abilities We Seek
  • 10+ years progressively responsible relevant experience
  • MS in Civil Engineering - Structures track required
  • Licensed IL SE required
  • Bridge Inspection experience, including NBIS certification, preferred but not required
  • Prior experience with complex projects preferred
  • Knowledge of bridge analysis, design and detailing as it pertains to IDOT, Tollway, CDOT, Metra, and local agencies and applicable design codes such as AASHTO and AREMA
  • Experience with WisDOT preferred but not required
  • Experience with a variety of structural analysis software preferred
  • Experience with FEM preferred but not required
  • Proficient with Bentley's MicroStationยฎ software required; 3D experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to direct and supervise staff engineers and technicians

The salary range for this role is $140,000 to $160,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
