Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Infrastructure - Transportation business practice in the US Central Sector, based in Chicago. The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Department Manager - Bridges & Structures with a focus on highway and railway related structures.  Project types will be diverse and include, but not be limited to, new structures, rehabilitation of existing structures, and inspection and evaluation of existing structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls and railway facilities. The projects will involve a wide variety of structure types, foundations and materials for clients such as IDOT, CDOT, WisDOT, Tollway, Metra and CTA.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Structural design for all project types, including complex bridges
  • Schematic/geometric layout design of new structures
  • Perform analysis and design calculations according to the applicable design codes; use computer programs as appropriate
  • Conduct load rating analysis for bridges
  • Prepare plan drawings and details, construction specifications and design calculations
  • Conduct on-site inspection, analysis and condition assessment of existing structures
  • Construction phase engineering support including reviews of shop drawings and requests for information
  • Assist project managers with scoping and budgeting for structural work and be responsible for quality assurance of deliverables

What your experience looks like

  • MS in Civil Engineering - Structures track required. 
  • EIT certification required - on track to earn PE/SE.
  • 4+ years progressively responsible relevant experience.
  • Bridge Inspection experience, including NHI Course preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience with complex bridge projects.
  • Knowledge of bridge analysis, design and detailing as it pertains to IDOT, Tollway, CDOT, CTA, Metra, and local agencies and applicable design codes such as AASHTO and AREMA.
  • Knowledge of structural analysis software including MDX, LARSA and RCPier preferred but not required.
  • Proficient with MicroStation and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

The salary range for this role is $95,000 to $120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
