Job Summary:

Supervises a sound design area at a Research I University; conceptualizing and facilitating sound designs for departmental productions; preparing, tracking, and reconciling sound shop purchases and budgets; and providing support for audio engineering for each event in the department's production facilities.

Job Description:

  • Responsibilities include supervising a sound design area at a Research I University;

  • conceptualizing and facilitating sound designs for departmental productions;

  • preparing, tracking, and reconciling sound shop purchases and budgets;

  • and providing support for audio engineering for each event in the department's production facilities.

  • Additional responsibilities will include collaboration with colleagues across various areas of the department and overseeing and maintaining the sound inventory for our production venues.

The Department of Theatre & Film at The University of Mississippi invites applications for a staff Sound Designer beginning Fall 2026. A bachelor's degree in theatrical design/technology, or a related field, as well as two years of experience related to the position is preferred for this full-time twelve-month position.

Job Responsibilities:

Substitution Statement: An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.
