Job description

Construction Inspector:

Provides full-time support to the RE. The Construction Inspector performs Quality Assurance (QA) monitoring and inspecting construction work for compliance; monitoring the excavation; loading and off-haul of hazardous materials; verifying and/or conducting necessary testing for construction purposes; reviewing plans, specifications and shop drawings for compliance during construction, and during field services; reporting observed safety and environmental hazards, and/or field conditions that could alter original designs; reviewing project schedules, and implementing inspection plans; coordinating construction phases, leading and/or participating in field meetings; resolving problems, and responding to complaints; preparing project documentation including progress reports, daily project construction reports and records, and meeting minutes; analyzing and implementing approved change order requests; maintaining records; verifying field measurements; verifying and preparing quantity and progress estimates. The Construction Inspector performs all other related duties, as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of verifiable full-time experience in construction inspection work ensuring that plans and specifications are complied with, and the workmanship and material used meet specifications
  • Two (2) of the four (4) years’ experience required may be substituted for experience at the Superintendent/General Foreman level, supervising construction crews of more than six (6) staff
  • Current OSHA 30-HR for Construction Certification

Desirable Qualifications for Inspector position:

Knowledge of:

  • The principles, practices and methods of construction management and general construction inspection practices.
  • Construction, maintenance and repair methods and procedures.
  • Research techniques and reporting.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Projects).
  • Construction materials necessary to determine the quality and correct use in projects.
  • Safe working habits and regulations in relation to different phases of construction and Excavation Code enforcement.
  • Marine construction experience desirable (i.e., pile driving, float installation, and general over-water construction knowledge).

Ability to:

  • Understand and interpret contract plans and specifications to administer the contract.
  • Perform mathematical computations and apply results to inspection work.
  • Prepare various types of reports and other written communications necessary for record keeping and letters to contractors.
  • Communicate and work effectively and harmoniously with superiors, coworkers, engineers, contractors, and the public.
  • Direct, monitor and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  • Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Encourage and foster team building.
  • Resolve problems and conflicts; and expedite project goals.

Working Hours/Conditions:

Consultants must have ability to work a minimum of 8-hour work shifts, Monday – Friday and commit to a minimum 6-month term. This may be up to a 2-year assignment. Work may require early morning and/or late-night shifts, and weekends; some dirty and disagreeable work environment and physical effort, such as working in inclement weather conditions, walking on uneven surfaces, and standing for long periods of time.

Salary Range:

Annual: $93,600.00 - $108,160.00 Bi-Weekly: $3,600.00 - $4,160.00 Hourly: $45.00 - $52.00
