Position Summary:
The Sewing Machine Mechanic Trainee assists in the maintenance, repair, and adjustment of industrial sewing machines and related equipment while learning the technical skills required for the role. Under supervision, this position supports troubleshooting mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, replacing parts, and ensuring machines operate safely and efficiently. The trainee gains hands-on experience in machine setup, diagnostics, and repair techniques while supporting production operations and maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards. This role is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to progress into a Sewing Machine Mechanic position.
This is an exciting opportunity to build a career at with BISM, supporting our Nation's military making military uniforms and other textile products.
What you will be doing:
1. Perform preventive maintenance on production equipment, including sewing machines.
2. Troubleshoot and repair production equipment.
3. Complete daily maintenance and repair logs.
4. Maintain and secure work tools.
5. Shadow other mechanics to learn our machines and grow broader understanding of products.
5. Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use.
6. Make recommendations on repair/replacement of equipment.
7. Install new equipment.
Qualifications:
• Manual dexterity required - will routinely stand, sit, lift, climb, etc.
• Must have strong mechanical, electrical, and pneumatics aptitude with good trouble shooting skills
• Basic reading, writing and math skills.
• Must have a valid driver's license and will need to pass company sponsored forklift training course.
• General knowledge of construction trades i.e. carpentry, electricity, HVAC, plumbing with the ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.
