Are you a Software Developer with a passion for astrodynamics looking to apply your skills to cutting-edge space mission software?

NS2 Mission is seeking an excellent Software Developer candidate to join our engineering team in Chantilly, VA working on the next generation of a key software system in the Intelligence Community for defense of vital national assets. Our team has deep experience in this exciting mission of space domain awareness and is looking to add a great fit to our team to deliver world-class SDA I&W systems. We are looking for a Software Developer with strong Java expertise and a background in astrodynamics.

Candidates may participate in all aspects of lifecycle application development including technical exchange meetings, whitepapers, design, code, test, debug, configuration management, and production support for Java applications. As part of this team, you will work with emerging microservice and distributed computing technologies for satellite situational awareness (SSA) data processing and distribution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software components in Java and Spring.
  • Apply astrodynamics knowledge to develop algorithms and software supporting SDA mission requirements.
  • Build, test, and deploy microservices in a containerized environment using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Work with distributed systems and data platforms, including MongoDB, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
  • Integrate with and leverage messaging frameworks such as ActiveMQ and Kafka.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable, resilient software systems.
  • Collaborate closely with systems engineers, data scientists, and mission experts to deliver high-quality solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong software development experience with Java including Spring framework.
  • Experience or academic background in astrodynamics (e.g., orbital mechanics, space object tracking, propagation, or related).
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with modern databases (MongoDB, Redis) and distributed data processing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative, mission-focused environment.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a dynamic team environment developing solutions from both written and spoken requirements.

  • Security+ certification
  • Knowledge of Agile development process
  • Experience with Jira
  • Experience with continuous integration technologies such as Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo
  • Experience with Java development tools such as IntelliJ, VS Code, Eclipse IDE, Gradle
  • Familiarity with Git and Bitbucket
