Description:
Operates knitting equipment within the Fabric Formation area of the Manufacturing Solutions Center (MSC). Works with entrepreneurs and existing businesses to assist in product creation and development process.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives daily supervision from Fabric Formation Lead. Reports to the MSC Director (formal performance reviews, administrative)
Examples of Duties
Examples of Important Responsibilities and Duties
Important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Develop capability to operate Santoni TOP2V circular knitting equipment in Fabric Formation lab, providing product development assistance and sample runs for clients.

  1. Works with Fabric Formation Manager and Sewing Line on knitting and sewing projects. Develop knowledge of downstream processes for fabric knit from Santoni equipment (sewing and knitting).

  1. Primary resource for finishing of garments/projects developed on Santoni equipment.

  1. Develop capability to operate additional equipment including Agtek twister, Twine machine and develop Standard Operating Procedures for equipment. Support Hosiery Knitting area with machine operation and boarding assistance as appropriate.

  1. Develop knowledge and skills for computer software and programming to operate equipment, such as Digraph and Polaris for Santoni TOP2V.

  1. Assists with maintenance of equipment as directed by Fabric Formation Lead..

  1. Works with entrepreneurs and existing businesses to help develop their products and then source products to US manufacturers, including involvement in prototyping and sampling.

  1. Develop basic yarn knowledge and ability to work with yarn and knitting companies on efficiency projects. Assist Fab Formation Lead with yarn inventories, support purchasing as needed

  1. Works with MSC staff to handle invoicing for projects.

  1. Review Podio client requests and respond to client inquiries to set virtual calls/meetings to discuss client projects
    1. Review Podio client intake forms with Fab Formation Lead to determine who are the appropriate MSC team members to be involved in project
    2. Promptly respond to clients to schedule calls/meetings based on schedules of MSC team members and customers
    3. Update Podio with meeting notes.
    4. Adding Purchase Orders to Podio system and tracking their progress.

  1. Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.

  1. Support Fabric Formation Manager by ordering parts, tools, yarn, and repairs for the equipment.

  1. Assists with visits from schools and other interested parties.

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications -
Knowledge of:
  • Basic knitting equipment operation, preferred. Training available.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Computer programs such as Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills, working with internal and external customers.

Ability To:
  • Operate knitting equipment
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously (multi-task).
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations as needed.
  • Assist with delivering classes or training on cut/sew equipment and other equipment located within Fabric Formation area.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate new service delivery methods and techniques.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Work with entrepreneurs and businesses to create product which uses cut/sew equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain knitting equipment in the MSC Fabric Formation area.

Qualifications
Experience
Experience in textiles and experience with operating sewing equipment, preferred.
Training/Education:
Equivalent to a Two Year Associate degree from an accredited college, preferred

Possession of a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions
Environmental Conditions:
Indoor working environment; working with machinery; periodically working irregular hours; exposure to textile dyes and chemicals.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; some walking; the use of fingers; bending; some heavy lifting of cases up to 30+ pounds, transport of cases of 60+ pounds using hand-trucks or other equipment; visual acuity necessary to thread and operate equipment; and use of ladder or elevated structures for yarn placement on equipment and/or cleaning of equipment.
