Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Gurney Van Driver will operate a gurney van equipped to provide nonemergency transport of mobility- impaired
individuals to and from hospitals, convalescent facilities, private homes, dialysis units, doctorโ€™s offices, rehabilitation
centers, etc. in a safe and timely manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
โ€ข Picks up patients at home or other facility. Provides the assistance required to safely board patients and caregivers.
โ€ข Operates Stryker gurney as needed for safe and comfortable patient transportation.
โ€ข On arrival at medical facility, assists patients in exiting the van and reaching the proper offices or treatment areas.
โ€ข Checks the van to ensure that no personal items are left behind.
โ€ข Provides first-aid or CPR if required during patient transport. Immediately notifies emergency staff and dispatcher ifย skilled assistance is required.
โ€ข Completes reports at the end of a shift.
โ€ข Immediately reports traffic accidents to dispatcher, requesting police or ambulance service as needed. Assists injuredย persons from first-aid kit until these services arrive. Completes company accident reports.
โ€ข Checks all equipment for future readiness, maintains van in operable condition, ensures van cleanliness and orderliness
of equipment and supplies, decontaminates vehicle interior after each transport.
โ€ข Completes a thorough vehicle maintenance inspection prior to vehicle operation.
โ€ข Maintains positive behaviors, attitudes and commitments to interpersonal service in regard to customer, visitors, andย coworkers.
โ€ข Performs related duties as assigned by management, supervisor, or dispatch.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
โ€ข Possession of the patience and tact necessary for contacts with patients, both adult and children, and their caregivers.
โ€ข Must be reliable and capable of working independently and remaining calm in case of emergency.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
โ€ข Must hold a currently valid driver's license and have an excellent driving record.
โ€ข Fluency in English required. Depending on assigned area, knowledge of Spanish would be helpful.
โ€ข Satisfactory completion of a company training program in passenger assistance techniques, sensitivity training, andย map reading, or demonstrated competence based on previous employment experience.
โ€ข Satisfactory completion of CPR training provided by a local emergency medical training facility or a certificate indicatingย prior successful completion of such training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
โ€ข Ability to lift, push, pull, and position patients frequently. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. without assistance.
โ€ข Ability to perform considerable reaching, stooping, and bending.
โ€ข Hearing and vision abilities within normal range (corrected) to drive safely and to observe and communicate with
patients.
โ€ข Regular exposure to injuries and illness.
โ€ข Frequent need to handle emergency or crisis situations.
โ€ข Exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
