Job description

Since 2005, HighMark Traffic Services Inc. has specialized in the application of pavement marking materials, including epoxy and paint materials, for airports, DOTs, municipalities, and private projects. Removal services utilizing water blasting and/or truck-mounted grinders are also available.

The Striper position is responsible for operating various types of pavement marking equipment. The position requires frequent overnight travel. Hotel accommodation and per diem allowances are paid for. This position requires flexibility; work hours and shift times will vary per job, with great potential for overtime.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Prepare surfaces through line removal, grooving, and water blasting
• Assist with rumble strip operations
• Load, unload, and maintain equipment and materials
• Travel to project sites and work in outdoor environments
• Follow all safety, DOT, and company regulations
• Perform pavement marking using paint, epoxy, MMA, tape, and thermoplastic
• Operate and assist with striping and support equipment
• Equipment Operation - Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smartphones, physical agility to use arms, legs, and hands repetitively
• Working outdoors, working safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions, which include high-speed traffic areas, and heavy construction equipment.
• Working a flexible schedule which may include day or night shifts, and weekends, adjusting to a changing work schedule, working overtime, and working individually and as a team with other employees

Skills and Abilities:
• Valid driver's license required, will require passing a drug test, and a background check
• Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
• Ability to pass DOT and company pre-employment and random drug screenings
• Must maintain company standards post-employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing
• CDL preferred
• Willingness to travel and work extended hours
• Ability to work with others
• Ability to work with little supervision
• Mechanical aptitude is necessary
• Able to work in a multitude of environments (hot, cold, dusty, noisy, etc)
• Must be able to speak, read and write English as part of the job

Work Environment:
This position operates in a variety of outdoor and industrial environments depending on project location. Employees may be exposed to hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, traffic, and changing weather conditions. Work is performed along active roadways and construction zones, requiring constant attention to safety procedures and situational awareness.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a seasonal full-time position that requires the striper to be able to work long hours and overtime, starting in March/April through November/December, depending on conditions. Schedules are subject to change based on the needs. 95% of work is performed across Montana; some out-of-state work may also be scheduled each year. Long days, overnights, and weekends may be required. Per diem compensation is provided for each night away, and hotel accommodations are paid by the company.

Travel: Required.

Physical Demands:
• Repeated physical effort, including driving for several hours per day or several hours at a time, standing and walking for extended periods of time (more than several hours), loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles, walking on varying ground surfaces, and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
• Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time
• Vision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction DOT signs, read instructions, manuals, reports, and construction plans
• Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone
• Communicating clearly - both written and verbally, ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor
