Acts as a team member responsible for organizing and carrying out structured learning processes for students in the welding program. Participate in the full range of professional and college-related activities including student advising, curriculum development, professional growth, departmental and college-wide meetings, committee activity, and community involvement.
Supervision Received
The director, in consultation with the program coordinator, is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice-president of instruction. The director confers with the department representation in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.
Examples of Duties - Essential Functions
  1. Instructs students in courses contained within the Welding and Manufacturing degree plans and certificates.
  2. Advises students on matters of program goals and course requirements, scheduling office hours as needed.
  3. Prepares, distributes, and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and alternative delivery of courses when appropriate.
  4. Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process and instruments which are related to the stated objectives of the course.
  5. Participates as a team member in departmental meetings, planning activities, advisory committee meetings, and student outreach.
  6. Assists Welding department in curriculum planning and development, equipment/facilities acquisition and alternative funding opportunities as needed.
  7. Serves as a member of college-wide standing committees, search committees, and other related activities as assigned.
  8. Participates in the development of the quarterly class schedule and the annual departmental budget; initiates purchase requisitions, travel requests, and work orders as needed.
  9. Engages in regular professional growth activity based on the objectives established in an approved professional growth plan.
  10. Represents the program and the College to the community, businesses, public agencies, and other organizations in a professional manner.
  11. Responsible for departmental equipment, participates in periodic department inventory, and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the department.
  12. Conduct assessments to support course, program, and institutional goals, ensuring alignment with student success and institutional outcomes.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Screening Criteria
Education: An associate degree in welding, manufacturing technology, or related field. A certified welder, certified welding inspector, and/or other professional welding-related certifications are preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years' welding, manufacturing technology, or related industry experience is required. Manufacturing processes, welding, and teaching experience at the high school or college level are preferred.
Knowledge of: Industrial welding, fabrication, repair, drafting, manual machine, processes, computer numerical control systems and metallurgy to industry standards are required. Computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to word processing, the Internet, multi-media presentations, spreadsheets and database management; curriculum development; the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and student population; and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs.
Ability to: Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members. Participate as a professional in achieving the mission and goals of the college. Demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in the classroom and in completion of related educational duties. Demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth. Follow requirements of American with Disabilities Act legislation. Advise students and Present material to students with different learning styles.
Physical Demands of Position: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis such as books, boxes, welding lab equipment, hazardous materials, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as welding lab equipment and computer keyboard. May also be required to sit for long periods of time in meetings or traveling between counties.
Working conditions: Potential exposure to body fluids, pathogens and hazardous materials. The noise level in the work area is typical of most welding lab environments with potentially loud equipment, frequent interruptions, and background noises.
Licenses: For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
