Position Summary:
The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities that support Stellar's strategic growth objectives. This role focuses on acquiring new customers, expanding market share, and building long-term relationships by delivering consultative sales solutions that improve customer operations and create measurable value.
Working closely with Account Relationship Managers, Customer Experience, Supply Chain, Solutions, Specialists, supplier partners, and operational teams, the Business Development Manager develops customer-focused solutions and supports a seamless transition from prospecting and acquisition through onboarding and ongoing account management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Development & Prospecting
  • Identify, develop, and pursue new business opportunities by building and maintaining a robust sales pipeline through networking, referrals, research, cold calling, and other business development activities.
  • Utilize Proton.AI CRM to document prospecting activities, customer interactions, sales opportunities, and account development.

Consultative Sales & Customer Relationships
  • Develop strong relationships with prospective customers by understanding their operations, identifying challenges, and recommending value-added solutions.
  • Conduct customer visits, presentations, and product demonstrations to communicate Stellar's capabilities, introduce new products, programs, and services, and support customer growth.
  • Document customer value, cost savings, and operational improvements resulting from Stellar's solutions.

Territory Growth & Sales Performance
  • Develop and execute territory plans that support revenue growth, gross margin improvement, and strategic business objectives.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and customer needs to identify new business opportunities.
  • Achieve established sales goals and performance expectations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Account Relationship Managers (ARMs), Customer Experience, Supply Chain, Solutions, Specialists, Operations, and supplier representatives to identify opportunities and develop comprehensive customer solutions.
  • Collaborate with local ARMs throughout the business development process, leveraging existing market and customer knowledge and coordinating sales efforts as appropriate.
  • Coordinate successful onboarding and transition of new customers to the appropriate ARM and Customer Experience teams to support long-term account growth and service.
  • Participate in joint customer visits with ARMs, supplier partners, and other internal teams when appropriate.

Professional Standards
  • Maintain accurate customer records, sales activities, and pipeline information within Proton.AI CRM.
  • Participate in sales meetings, manufacturer programs, product training, and professional development opportunities while demonstrating professionalism, integrity, accountability, and a customer-first approach.

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or modified at any time to meet business needs
Hours/Schedule:
  • Full-time, exempt position.
  • Standard work schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; flexibility is expected based on customer and business needs.
  • This is a hybrid position that combines field-based customer visits, remote work, and occasional time in a Stellar branch or office.
  • Frequent local travel throughout the assigned territory is required using a personal vehicle. Overnight travel may occasionally be required to support customer meetings, training, conferences, and business development initiatives.

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Experience:
  • Five or more years of proven business-to-business (B2B) sales or business development experience required.
  • Demonstrated success developing new business, building customer relationships, and managing a sales territory preferred.
  • Industrial distribution, MRO, manufacturing, construction, or related industry experience preferred.
  • Experience using CRM platforms preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proven ability to develop new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, and consultative selling.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to influence decision-makers at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, negotiation, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to analyze customer operations and recommend practical, value-added solutions.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CRM software.
  • Mechanical aptitude or knowledge of industrial products is preferred.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Working Conditions
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent driving and travel to customer locations.
  • Regular use of computers, mobile devices, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout customer facilities for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift or move sales materials, product samples, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:
  • Primarily field-based, working at customer locations, branch offices, trade events, and other business environments.
  • Frequent travel throughout the assigned territory, including occasional overnight travel, is required to support customer meetings, training, conferences, and business development initiatives.
  • Regular use of Proton.AI CRM, Microsoft Office applications, mobile technology, and other business systems.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring adaptability, effective prioritization, and responsiveness to customer needs.
  • Must follow all company and customer-specific safety, security, and workplace policies.
