Reading Tutor

Are you interested in making a real impact while gaining meaningful experience? As a Reading Corps Reading Tutor, you’ll work at a local school helping students strengthen their skills.

Students who read have the power to succeed—and you can help unlock that power.

As a Reading Tutor, you’ll support students during the school day through short, 20‑minute one‑on‑one or small‑group reading sessions using fun, proven activities. No teaching experience needed—we provide training and ongoing support.

Watch students grow in confidence and skills as your encouragement helps lead the way.

We are currently hiring for the 2026-27 school year. Positions run August 2026–June 2027.

  • 35 hours per week (less in weeks with holidays or school release days)
  • Daytime hours (corresponding with school start and end times)
  • Monday-Friday (no weekends)
  • Time off on holidays and school release days

Pay & Benefits 

Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks. Compensation: $17.50 per hour served and additional perks! Learn more.

  • Up to $5,176.50 for college tuition or student loans (tutors 55+ can transfer this award to a qualified family member)
  • Federal student loan forbearance (payment pause) and interest repayment
  • Time accrual toward the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

Who We’re Looking For

  • 18+ with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Dependable, caring, and open to feedback
  • Comfortable with basic computer skills
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. and pass a background check
