The NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Nursing & Health Sciences at Iona University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track position as Program Director and Senior Clinical Lecturer in Mental Health Counseling, beginning August 2026. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced clinician-educator to shape the future of a growing graduate program, lead a dedicated faculty team, and make a meaningful difference in the preparation of the next generation of mental health professionals.
The Program Director and Senior Clinical Lecturer holds a dual mandate: teaching graduate-level coursework and providing strategic leadership for the MA in Mental Health Counseling program. Teaching responsibilities may span experimental and quantitative research methods, substance-related and addictive processes, trauma-informed care, and community-focused health. Administrative responsibilities include curriculum development and program evaluation, course scheduling, faculty oversight, and student recruitment and retention.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching
  • Teach graduate-level MHC courses aligned with expertise and program needs
  • Develop new courses that reflect emerging trends in the field
  • Advise, mentor, and support graduate students throughout their program

Leadership & Administration
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership as Program Director
  • Oversee course scheduling, curriculum development, and program assessment
  • Support and supervise faculty, including adjunct hiring
  • Partner with the Graduate Director of Admissions on recruitment initiatives
  • Develop and implement student retention and success strategies
  • Facilitate interprofessional collaboration across the School

Service & Professional Development
  • Maintain active professional development and community engagement
  • Engage in shared governance through committee participation
  • Uphold ethical standards consistent with the counseling profession and Iona's mission
  • Contribute to an inclusive, mission-driven academic community rooted in the heritage of the Christian Brothers

Educational Qualifications & Experience
  • Candidates must have completed a PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology or PhD in Counselor Education.
  • Candidates should be licensed as a mental health counselor or psychologist in New York State.
  • At least five years graduate level teaching experience in mental health counseling or psychology
  • Demonstrated record of service and ongoing professional development

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to think critically, problem-solve independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Able to integrate clinical experience, teaching, and service, and collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty in the health science disciplines.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mental health counseling profession through relevant professional memberships, professional development activities, service/advocacy, and scholarly work.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Program Evaluation experience
  • SPSS skills, data analysis knowledge in Excel
