What is a full time production assistant?

Full Time Production Assistants are entry-level professionals who support the production process in various industries such as film, television, theater, or live events. Their responsibilities typically include assisting with set preparation, managing equipment, running errands, coordinating with crew members, and handling administrative tasks. Working full time means they are employed on a regular, ongoing basis rather than just for specific projects or short periods. Production Assistants play a crucial role in ensuring that productions run smoothly and efficiently. The role often serves as a stepping stone to more advanced positions within the industry.

What are the typical responsibilities of a full time production assistant during a live production day?

As a Full Time Production Assistant, your daily tasks often include setting up equipment, preparing locations, coordinating talent and crew, and managing logistics like paperwork and schedules. During live production, you may be responsible for cueing talent, delivering scripts or props, and ensuring smooth communication between departments. The role requires flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly to last-minute changes or challenges, all while supporting the team to keep production running efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time production assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Production Assistant, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent, with some roles preferring experience or relevant coursework in media production. Familiarity with production equipment, scheduling software, and office tools like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace is commonly required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to multitask under pressure are vital soft skills for this position. These skills ensure smooth production workflows, timely project completion, and effective teamwork in dynamic production environments.

Both roles require similar skills and credentials, but differ mainly in hours and employment status.

Can I be a full time production assistant with no experience?

Full time production assistant roles often do not require prior experience, as on-the-job training is common. Employers typically look for strong organizational skills, the ability to work in a team, and a willingness to learn, with some positions accepting entry-level candidates. Having basic knowledge of production equipment or software can be helpful but is not always necessary for entry-level positions.

How hard is it to get a job as a full time production assistant?

Securing a full-time production assistant position typically requires relevant entry-level skills, such as familiarity with production equipment and good organizational abilities. Competition can be high, and candidates often need to demonstrate flexibility, a willingness to learn, and sometimes relevant internships or certifications. Networking and gaining experience through internships or freelance work can improve chances of employment.

A full-time production assistant typically earns between $25,000 and $45,000 annually, depending on location, experience, and the industry sector. Job description

Overview

Road Runner Sports is looking for a Production Assistant to join our Creative team. In this role, you will be the operational engine behind every photo and video shoot; scouting locations, prepping apparel, coordinating models, managing equipment, and keeping the entire production running smoothly from call time to wrap. If you are organized, calm under pressure, and energized by the fast pace of a creative shoot day, this is your chance to be right in the middle of where great content gets made.

About Us:

  • Road Runner Sports is proud to have been recognized as the Footwear Retailer of the Year by Footwear Magazine
  • Founded in a San Diego garage over 42 years ago
  • Road Runner Sports has 50 plus stores across the country, and we are growing!
  • Our Values, Mission & Purpose (we call them Our 6 Pillars) are Be Different, Bring the WOW, Build Something Great Together, Get Moving, Stay Active, and Live Healthy

What you'll get to do:

  • Scout and evaluate shoot locations, considering lighting, accessibility, and brand fit
  • Research and secure permits or location approvals for off-site shoots
  • Pull, steam, and prep apparel and footwear so every product looks its best in front of the camera
  • Tag, track, and manage product samples throughout the shoot and coordinate returns to merchandising when it wraps
  • Coordinate models and talent agencies' fittings, call times, and release paperwork
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of lighting, backdrops, and camera equipment on shoot days
  • Serve as on-set support to the photographer by running errands, managing craft services, and troubleshooting on the fly
  • Help keep shoot schedules and timelines on track and on budget

What you'll bring:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially under time pressure
  • Comfort lifting and moving equipment and standing for extended periods during shoots
  • Basic familiarity with photo and video production equipment (lighting, tripods, backdrops) is a plus
  • Valid driver's license required for location scouting and equipment transport
  • Professional communication skills with models, vendors, and location contacts
  • Flexibility for occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends around shoot schedules
  • Prior production, styling, or set experience is a strong plus, but a great attitude and willingness to learn matter most

Your rewards!

  • Earn competitive pay
  • Contribute to an OUTSTANDING team
  • Be the envy of your friends with discounts on ALL the latest gear and footwear
  • Enjoy free running and walking events
