This is a hands-on, production-focused position for someone with proven professional experience operating large-format printing equipment and managing the technical processes required to transform digital artwork into high-quality finished physical products. The successful candidate will combine strong technical printing expertise with excellent color management knowledge, digital file preparation skills, practical design ability, and a strong artistic eye. You will work with professional printing equipment and production technologies, including Epson and SwissQprint large-format printers, Caldera RIP software, spectrophotometers, fine art papers, specialty substrates, inks, films, foils, and finishing equipment. This is not primarily an artist or graphic design position. While design skills and artistic judgment are important, the foundation of this role is hands-on professional print production experience, technical knowledge, quality control, efficiency, reliability, and the ability to independently manage production workflows. Key Responsibilities Large-Format Print Production Operate and maintain professional large-format printing equipment. Operate Epson and/or SwissQprint printers and manage daily production workflows. Manage print queues, production schedules, deadlines, and workflow priorities. Monitor print quality, color consistency, material performance, and overall production output. Ensure finished products meet established technical and visual quality standards. Identify production issues before they impact finished artwork or customer deliverables. Digital File Preparation & Prepress Prepare, preflight, and manage production-ready files. Work with digital artwork using: Adobe Photoshop Adobe Illustrator Adobe Acrobat Caldera RIP Review files for proper resolution, dimensions, scaling, color space, profiles, and production requirements. Prepare PDFs and artwork for accurate large-format printing. Troubleshoot file preparation and prepress issues. Ensure digital files are properly optimized for the selected printer, ink, substrate, and finishing process. Color Management & Quality Control Maintain accurate and consistent color throughout the production process. Use spectrophotometers and other color measurement equipment to evaluate and maintain color accuracy. Perform printer and color calibration as required. Work with: RGB CMYK Lab color ICC profiles Color profiling Color calibration Ink limits Ink density Color gamut Evaluate measurement data to identify color inconsistencies and production issues. Understand how printers, inks, paper, substrates, profiles, and finishing processes interact to affect the final product. Maintain high standards for color consistency across multiple prints and production runs. Fine Art & Specialty Material Production Work with a variety of professional printing materials, including: Fine art papers Cotton rag papers Coated papers Uncoated papers Smooth and textured papers Photo papers Specialty substrates ACM and rigid substrates Films Foils Understand how different materials absorb and react to various ink types. Work with and understand the properties of: UV inks Aqueous inks White ink Varnish Specialty coatings Select and prepare materials appropriately based on production requirements. Finishing & Physical Production Cut, trim, and prepare finished artwork. Perform lamination and finishing processes. Inspect completed products for technical and visual quality. Prepare finished artwork for packaging and shipment. Assist with specialty finishing processes and production techniques. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient production area. Troubleshooting & Workflow Improvement Troubleshoot basic printer, equipment, software, color, file, and production issues. Identify the root cause of technical or visual problems. Work proactively to prevent recurring production issues. Recommend improvements to production workflows and efficiency. Help develop new printing techniques and specialty material workflows. Learn and implement new technologies, equipment, materials, and production processes. Inventory & Production Coordination Monitor ink, paper, substrates, films, foils, and other production materials. Assist with inventory management and material tracking. Monitor material usage and identify upcoming supply requirements. Support production scheduling and workflow coordination. Work collaboratively with team members to meet production deadlines. Required Qualifications Professional Print Production Experience Minimum 2 years of actual professional, hands-on print production experience required. Experience must involve working directly in a professional printing, prepress, large-format production, fine art printing, digital printing, or similar production environment. General graphic design experience alone will not meet the requirements. Photography, art school, personal artwork, freelance design work, or hobby printing does not substitute for professional print production experience. Large-Format Printing Professional experience operating large-format printers. Experience with Epson and/or SwissQprint printers is strongly preferred. Ability to manage production queues and maintain consistent production quality. Understanding of professional print workflows from file preparation through finished product. Color Management Strong knowledge and practical experience with: RGB CMYK Lab color ICC profiles Color management Color calibration Color profiling Resolution Scaling Ink limits Ink density Color gamut PDF preparation File preflight Color Measurement Equipment Experience using spectrophotometers or other professional color measurement equipment. Ability to interpret color measurement data. Experience maintaining and evaluating color consistency. However, education does not replace the required minimum of two years of hands-on professional print production experience. Design & Artistic Skills While this is primarily a technical production position, the ideal candidate will also possess a strong artistic eye and practical design skills.
