Position Summary Information
General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Division Dean, Associate Dean, and the Program Chair, the Precision Machining & Automation Technology Instructor plays a key role in shaping the next generation of skilled machinists and manufacturing professionals. This position provides instruction at both the Lincoln Campus (TCA - The Career Academy) and the Milford Campus, delivering hands-on learning in classroom, lab, and online environments.
In this role, instruction is provided in manual machining processes using mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, saws, and other related equipment. The position also incorporates CAD design, CNC operations, machine and component assembly, and material selection into instruction, while reinforcing critical safety practices, hazard communication, and Right-to-Know standards.

In addition to instructional responsibilities, the role supports the ongoing development and maintenance of the program by assisting with curriculum development and updates, maintaining lab spaces and equipment, and implementing instructional strategies for both high school and college-level students. The position includes advising and mentoring students, monitoring their progress, and collaborating with the Precision Machining & Automation Program Team, SCC campus teams, and the TCA team to support student success. This is a full-time regular position for the upcoming 2026-2027 Academic Year.

  1. Act as a technical advisor for the Precision Machining & Automation Technology Program and collaborate with other college divisions to support high-quality instruction and ensure alignment with college policies and procedures.

Technical Expertise
  1. Demonstrate strong knowledge and hands-on experience in Precision Machining & Automation Technology.
  2. Apply industry practices, including machine setup and operation, blueprint reading, machining mathematics, and safety standards.
  3. Operate and maintain vertical and horizontal mills, engine lathes, surface and cylindrical grinders, drill presses, and precision measuring tools.
  4. Instruct students in the safe, accurate operation of machining equipment and tools.
  5. Use information from technical resources such as Machinery's Handbook and other industry references.
Instructional & Classroom Management Skills
  1. Maintain a safe, structured, and productive learning environment in both classroom and lab settings.
  2. Foster positive, professional relationships with students, colleagues, and administrators.
  3. Deliver instruction to a diverse student population with clear and effective oral and written communication skills.

Physical & Technical Requirements
  1. Ability to stand for extended periods (2-4 hours) while supervising labs or instruction.
  2. Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
  3. Working knowledge of PC applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and Auto CAD-or willingness to develop these skills within two (2) years of employment.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  5. Ability to use basic computer skills.
  6. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
  7. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Associate's degree in Precision Machining & Automation Technology or a directly related field.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years of industry experience in precision machining or a related field aligned with instructional areas. This includes hands-on experience with:
    • Engine lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, and drill presses
    • Layout and bench work
    • Blueprint reading
    • Materials of industry (metallurgy)
Desired Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Precision Machining & Automation Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
  2. Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience in a technical or post-secondary education setting.
  3. CNC programming and advanced CNC machining experience.
  4. Experience with CAD/CAM software used in modern manufacturing environments.
  5. Familiarity with curriculum development and competency-based instruction.
  6. Industry certifications in machining, manufacturing, or related technical areas.
  7. Experience working with both high school and college-age learners.
  8. Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.

Salary
$57,912 per year
Benefits
SCC BEN Dollars - Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan - Group Retirement Account (GRA).
Schedule
This is a full-time regular position with an implied 40-hour work week, based on a 175-day work calendar. Teaching assignments for this position are scheduled and approved by the College between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday based on the instructional work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
