Full Time Precision Machining information

What are some common challenges faced by full-time precision machining professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Full-time precision machining professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining tight tolerances, minimizing machine downtime, and ensuring consistent quality across multiple projects. To address these, machinists typically rely on continuous training, regularly scheduled maintenance of equipment, and close collaboration with quality control teams. Adapting to new technologies and manufacturing processes is also key for overcoming these challenges and advancing within the field.

What is full time precision machining?

Full time precision machining involves operating specialized machines such as lathes, mills, and grinders to create parts and components with very tight tolerances. Precision machinists read blueprints, set up equipment, and use measuring tools to ensure that each part meets exact specifications. Working full time in this field typically means a regular 40-hour work week, often in manufacturing or production environments. Precision machining is crucial in industries like aerospace, automotive, and medical devices where high accuracy and quality are essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Precision Machining professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Full Time Precision Machining, you need strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a background in machining or manufacturing, often supported by a technical diploma or apprenticeship. Familiarity with CNC machines, CAD/CAM software, and measurement instruments like micrometers and calipers is typically required. Problem-solving skills, reliability, and effective communication help individuals excel in team environments and adapt to production demands. These skills are crucial for ensuring high-quality, accurate parts production and maintaining safety and efficiency in manufacturing operations.

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Treske Precision Machining, Inc. is a U.S.-based advanced manufacturing company specializing in high-tolerance CNC machining and precision components. We serve aerospace, defense, space, electronics, medical, semiconductor, industrial equipment, and commercial industries. As a technology-driven organization, we utilize advanced automation, robotic machine loading, and proprietary software while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and employee development.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating production schedules that balance customer demand with available capacity, materials, and labor. This role works cross-functionally with operations, purchasing, engineering, and quality to ensure on-time delivery of precision components to our customers. The ideal candidate brings hands-on planning experience in a high-mix, low-volume CNC or precision machining environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

โ€ข Develop and maintain detailed production schedules in Epicor ERP, ensuring accurate job sequencing and resource loading across all work centers.

โ€ข Translate customer orders and forecasts into production work orders with realistic lead times and capacity constraints.

โ€ข Monitor daily production progress; identify scheduling conflicts, capacity gaps, and at-risk orders, and proactively communicate resolution plans.

โ€ข Coordinate with purchasing to align material availability with production start dates; flag shortages and expedite as needed.

โ€ข Maintain accurate routing, cycle time, and capacity data within Epicor to support scheduling fidelity.

โ€ข Collaborate with operations supervisors and machinists to understand actual vs. planned cycle times and adjust schedules accordingly.

โ€ข Participate in daily/weekly production meetings; provide clear schedule status updates and escalation of critical path issues.

โ€ข Support new customer order review by providing realistic lead time assessments based on current capacity loading.

โ€ข Assist in identifying and implementing scheduling process improvements to increase on-time delivery performance.

โ€ข Handle all work in compliance with ITAR and export control regulations; maintain appropriate handling of technical data and controlled information.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

โ€ข 3โ€“6 years of production planning or scheduling experience in a precision machining, aerospace, defense, or similar high-tolerance manufacturing environment.

โ€ข Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems โ€” Epicor experience strongly preferred.

โ€ข Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, work center capacity, and manufacturing lead time drivers.

โ€ข Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-mix environment.

โ€ข Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; comfortable with data analysis and schedule reporting.

โ€ข Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) in compliance with ITAR regulations.

Preferred:

โ€ข Experience with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems.

โ€ข Familiarity with APICS CPIM concepts or certification.

โ€ข Background working in an ITAR-regulated or defense-supply-chain environment.

COMPETENCIES

โ€ข Analytical thinking with a bias toward practical, shop-floor-grounded solutions.

โ€ข Clear, proactive communication โ€” written and verbal โ€” across all levels of the organization.

โ€ข High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.

โ€ข Collaborative team player who builds trust with operations and cross-functional partners.

โ€ข Continuous improvement mindset aligned with Treske's culture of excellence.
