Pharmacy Technician


Position Objective: To assist customers in their shopping experience by assisting them with their pharmaceutical and other wellness needs in the safest, most courteous manner possible.
Reporting Structure: This position formally reports to the Pharmacist in Charge.


Status: This is a non-exempt position.


Knowledge
The following is a list of any certifications, formal education, or training requirements for this position.
Essential Knowledge
* Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino Learning Plan.
Non-Essential Knowledge
* Pharmacy Technician Certification is preferred.
* A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
* Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Retail Pharmacy Software, and POS System experience is preferred.
Skills
The following is a list of the basic skill requirements for this position.
Essential Job Functions
* Know and implement the Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
* Courteously receives new and refilled prescriptions from customers for filling, as well as accommodating them when they return to pick up those prescriptions.
* Verifies name and address (if applicable) of the person the new prescription is to be filled for, as well as, legibility of the prescriber’s name.
* Processes cash register transactions for new and refilled prescriptions.
* Ensures necessary communications are provided to the customer, such as instructions, side effects and medication descriptions.
* Arranges customer consultations with Pharmacist, when requested.
* Procures signatures from customers for all prescriptions received.
* Answers incoming calls and directs to Pharmacist, when appropriate, such as new prescriptions, questions about medication, judgmental decision, etc.
* Completes and processes third-party documents.
* Fills prescription books or new prescriptions.
* Files patient profiles.
* Fills bins with prescription vials.
* Processes incoming orders to determine that items ordered were shipped and that items shipped are the same as items invoiced to the Pharmacy.
* Checks items for appropriate ‘shelf life’ remaining after expiration.
* Checks stock to remove outdated items, as often as deemed necessary by the Pharmacist-In-Charge.
* Cleans Pharmacy shelves and work areas and maintains entire premises in a satisfactory state of cleanliness.
* Know, comply with, and encourage other team members to comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines and safety procedures for your department and your store.
* Resolve customer complaints in a professional manner and recognize when it is appropriate to involve the Pharmacist in Charge.
* Able to operate all necessary equipment safely and competently.
* Meet or exceed productivity standards to produce desired team and individual results.
* Demonstrates the strong verbal and interpersonal skills necessary for positive customer and peer interactions.
* Demonstrates the basic math and reading skills required for the position.
* Demonstrates the essential written communication skills required for the position.
Non-Essential Job Functions
* Obtains from the prescription files those prescriptions requested to be refilled.
* Prepares labels for new/refill prescriptions.
* Fax or call physician office for additional refills/issues as necessary.
* Affixes price stickers to the items ordered and places on stock shelves or in refrigerator, when required.
* Maintain open communication with Pharmacist in Charge regarding any issues, concerns or happenings in the department.
* Support your company by completing additional tasks identified by management, assisting other stores or departments as needed and gaining new skills when necessary.
Physical Abilities
The following physical movements could potentially be part of any scheduled shift and employees will be expected to perform these actions while on duty.
Essential Abilities
* Reaching overhead with both arms, twisting at the waist and lifting objects with both hands weighing up to 15 lbs.
* Standing and walking for long periods of time on tile, asphalt, concrete or other hard surfaces.
* Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 15lbs.
* Bending and squatting, at times all the way to floor level.
Non-Essential Abilities
* Climbing a ladder, possibly up to 5ft.
