Job Overview
The Scientist, Polymer Chemist will join a multidisciplinary team leveraging the company’s proprietary technology, IsoClear™, to develop an innovative class of diagnostic tests across a broad range of human diseases and indications. In this role, the individual will design, characterize, and optimize polymeric materials to advance product development and drive innovation, supporting the development and commercialization of both current and future diagnostic solutions.
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative experienced Polymer Chemist to join our R amp;D team. This role focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of next-generation macromolecular architectures, with a specific emphasis on Hyperbranched and Bottlebrush Polymers.
The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in advanced controlled radical polymerization techniques and a proven track record of synthesizing non-linear, high-molecular-weight polymers for specialized applications.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Apply IsoClearâ„¢ technology for detection of changes in proteins structure, modifications, and interactions using partitioning in Aqueous Two-Phase Systems (ATPS).
  • Run existing assays, develop, and prepare new assays for early detection of cancer and other diseases applying the company’s proprietary technology, IsoClearâ„¢.
  • Design and optimize polymeric materials for targeted performance and application to IsoClearâ„¢ technology.
  • Characterize polymer materials using analytical techniques such as FTIR, and rheology.
  • Conduct structure–property relationship studies to guide material selection and design.
  • Collaborate with other R amp;D team members to design experiments and determine protocols.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support product development and troubleshooting.
  • Perform laboratory techniques and procedures required for experimental studies.
  • Design and conduct tests and procedures utilizing various laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Adhere to all applicable good laboratory practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Revise and update standard operating procedures as needed.
  • Maintain records of studies in accordance with Good Documentation Practices and adhere to applicable archiving policies.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret results and draw relevant conclusions. Prepare charts, graphs, statistical tables for presentations to supervisor for final analysis
  • Stay current with scientific literature and emerging polymer technologies
  • Plan, organize, perform, and monitor daily project activities
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • Polymerization Expertise
  • Architectural Experience: Direct experience synthesizing hyperbranched and bottlebrush polymers. Familiarity with the unique steric challenges
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the structure-property relationships in non-linear polymers, particularly regarding zero-entanglement networks and "super-soft" elastomers
  • Familiarity with the synthesis of click chemistry
  • Knowledge of medical-grade polymer requirements and biocompatibility standards
  • Ability to interpret complex analytical data and translate findings into development strategies
  • Proven experience to plan experiments independently with minimal guidance/direction is preferred
  • Firm understanding of research methods, protocols, procedures, techniques, and equipment
  • Experience with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Documentation Practice (GDP)
  • Proficient computer skills especially with Microsoft Office applications
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Works well in a collaborative and team-oriented environment
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload effectively
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions/Equipment used:
  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment.
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time
  • Visual acuity to examine specimens and reagents
  • The ability to distinguish colors
  • Light lifting up to 50#s may be required; offices reachable by elevator, must be able to climb stairs in case elevator out
  • Ability to operate a computer and other technology related lab equipment through course of day
  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to hazardous chemicals and biohazards
  • Ability to comply with all appropriate job PPE requirements
  • General office and HVAC noise
Other Requirements
  • Full-time on-site position; this is not a remote position
  • Candidate must have ability to maintain punctual daily in-person attendance
  • Requires Hepatitis B vaccination or appropriate waiver (working with blood-based samples)
