Ames CSD is seeking a full-time Plumber. This position will start in May 2026.
Work Schedule: 7:00-3:30, Monday - Friday; 255-day work agreement (year-round position)
Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Plumber position will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the plumbing systems and equipment across the District's buildings and facilities. This includes ensuring the functionality of pipes, fixtures, water heaters, and drainage systems. The Plumber will work to troubleshoot plumbing issues, perform routine inspections, and ensure that all plumbing systems meet safety and local code requirements. The role also involves collaborating with the facilities team to complete work orders and maintaining tools and supplies.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, water heaters, and drainage systems.
  • Inspects plumbing systems to identify issues, leaks, and other problems.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves plumbing malfunctions in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Performs all backflow testing in the District.
  • Responds to emergency plumbing issues, including leaks, clogs, and water pressure problems.
  • Maintains and repairs restrooms, kitchens, and other school facilities that rely on plumbing systems.
  • Ensures compliance with local plumbing codes, health and safety standards, and district policies.
  • Assists with the installation of new plumbing systems or upgrades as needed.
  • Maintains and organizes plumbing tools and equipment, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
  • Completes work orders and documents all services performed in a timely manner.
  • Plows snow when necessary.
  • Prepares and maintains records to document work and repairs as needed.
  • Works with minimal supervision.
  • Performs building maintenance and other duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to five years of related experience and/or training in the field of plumbing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Journeyman Plumbing License required.
  • Backflow Testing Certification preferred.
  • Must have a clean driving record; valid driver's license is required with a CDL preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds on and off throughout the day.

The successful candidate will exhibit:
  • Ability to read, interpret, understand, and implement communication, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient computer skills using email, spreadsheets, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and the internet.
  • Willingness to work well with others and work as a team member.
  • Ability to work outdoors during inclement weather.
  • Ability to attend work on a consistent and punctual basis.

Compensation: $33.90 per hour
