Under the direction of a certified teacher, the paraeducator reinforces instruction in academic classrooms, shops; implements accommodations and modifications as written in a student's IEP or behavior intervention plan; collects data on student progress and behavior; supports student organization, independence, and self-regulation consistent with school-wide expectations; assists with supervision and shop safety practices; and provides personal care assistance where a student's plan requires it. In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable\r\nfor supporting certified staff in delivering educational services and programming to\r\nstudents, providing individualized or small-group assistance to enhance learning,\r\nand foster student success.\r\n

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Provides academic, technical, and organizational support to students\r\nindividually and in groups;\r\n Assists certified staff with instructional activities, classroom preparation,\r\nassessments, and data collection;\r\n Supports classroom management and helps maintain safe, orderly learning\r\nenvironments;\r\n Supervises students in classrooms, technical areas, common spaces, and\r\nduring school activities;\r\n Promotes safe practices and proper use of tools, equipment, and learning\r\nmaterials;\r\n Supports students with diverse learning needs, including implementing\r\nIndividualized Education Program (IEP) related accommodations as directed;\r\n Assists with technology use and preparation of instructional materials;\r\n Contributes to positive classroom culture and builds supportive relationships\r\nwith students and families;\r\n Engages in professional development and maintains confidentiality and\r\ncompliance with safety and reporting requirements;\r\n Performs related duties as required.\r\n\r\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of college training or an Associate's degree.\r\nNOTE: College training is calculated on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours\r\nequalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 18 years of age.\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

A passing score on the ParaPro Assessment may be substituted for the General\r\nExperience.\r\n

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n\r\n Prior experience supporting students with disabilities in a high school setting.\r\n Experience implementing Individualized Education Program (IEP) related accommodations.\r\n Experience communicating with students and parents using technology such as PowerSchool.\r\n Experience with behavior support plans, de-escalation, or crisis response training.\r\n Experience supporting students in inclusive or co-taught classrooms.\r\n Ability to support students across both academic and shop settings.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
