Job description

Edison School of the Arts

Edison School of the Arts is a free public K-8 Performing Arts and Arts Integration School that serves the city of Indianapolis. We currently have approximately 600 students and are located just across the White River from Lucas Oil Stadium.


Position Description:

Edison School of the Arts is currently looking for a full time piano teacher to teach classes to students in grades K - 8. The role of this teacher is to provide engaging and excellent instruction. This position requires a strong background in Music and ability to teach. Edison School of the Arts has a large arts department, where each member of the arts team must be dependable and capable of meeting communicated deadlines, as well as, be flexible and work together as a team. Some performances are required in the evening and during the school day, as well as our end of the school year arts showcase. This position would require daily attendance for 7.5 hours a day.


Education: Bachelor's Degree in Music related subject required


Salary: Beginning at $54,800


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Teach combined middle school piano electives: grades 5 & 6 and grades 7 & 8
  • Teach piano enrichment group of multi-level grades 5 - 8 and grades 2 - 4
  • Teach grades 2- 4 piano classes



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Arrive to work on time daily
  • Prepare detailed daily lesson plans
  • Remain in communication with administrators including checking email daily
  • Utilize organizational skills to stay prompt in deadlines
  • Communicate effectively with parents and students
  • Assist in planning and execution of performances
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Provide advance notice if you are unable to attend work
  • Dress appropriately for the type of class you are teaching
  • Communicate concerns with administrators immediately
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of Edison School of the Arts
  • Work as a team player with co-workers in all departments
