Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Senior Aircraft Performance Engineer for our Scottsdale, AZ location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing complex aircraft performance and weight & balance data solutions to operators of aircraft. The selected candidate will apply superior knowledge of aircraft systems, operator policies, and regulatory requirements to create and implement aircraft performance calculation software to meet complex customer needs.
Essential Functions
  • Provide technical input to feature development plans and concept documents
  • Analyze existing data structures and recommend improvements
  • Partner with team lead to identify technical requirements and alternatives to accomplish project
  • Serve as a mentor and advisor to Aircraft Performance Engineer 1 & 2 associates
  • Collaborate with customers to build industry leading systems that meet customized design requirements
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy flight crew user interfaces for in-house developed aircraft performance and weight & balance systems
  • Use complex programming techniques to assist with solving small-to-large scale problems
  • Work independently and with internal development teams to develop and test full system functionality
  • Calculate, analyze and document complex aircraft performance data
  • Work with customers to optimize customer-specific use cases to support development of takeoff and landing (TOLD) configurations and procedures to assist customers with specific airports, runways and airframe/engine combinations
  • Test adaptation to test vectors, TOLD and standard computerized aircraft performance (SCAP)
  • Communicate aircraft performance and weight & balance related information to internal staff and customers
  • Exemplify Garmin's Mission Statement, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed
  • Provide 24x7 on call support

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of 5-year relative experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Knowledge of regulatory performance requirements for Transport Category Aircraft as required by the FAA or other national aviation governing bodies
  • Programming and scripting experience (Fortran, Python or a similar programming language)
  • Possess knowledge in TOLD and SCAP specifications and have SCAP module development experience
  • Familiar with flight planning mission optimization techniques
  • Strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Driven problem solver with exceptional technical troubleshooting skills and demonstrated ability to resolve problems with minimal supervision

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as a pilot, aircraft dispatcher, aircraft performance engineer or load planner
  • Experience using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
