Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for a Principal / Sr. Principal Metrology Engineer CMM located in Sunnyvale, CA.

What you'll get to do:

  • Properly evaluate and interpret engineering models, engineering GD&T intent, and calibration results.

  • Manage daily metrology workflow to drive efficiency and optimal resource utilization.

  • Develop solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovative thinking.

  • Perform measurements and data post processing using portable metrology systems such as Optical Fixtures, Motion Simulators, and Analysis data using statistic software etc..

  • Serve as the main metrology interface between engineering and metrology technicians.

Job Description:

Develops and evaluates metrology calibration systems that measure characteristics of objects using PC-DMIS. Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms. Develops calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems and accuracy and precision requirements using PC-DMIS.

This position may be filled as a Principal Metrology Engineer CMM or a Sr. Principal Metrology Engineer CMM.

Basic Qualifications for the Principal Metrology Engineer CMM:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related discipline with 5 years of experience in Programming with PC-DMIS (Metrology software) for CMM Machines; Masters degree STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 3 years of experience in Programming with PC-DMIS (Metrology software) for CMM Machines.

  • Experience using metrology equipment.

  • Experience with Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and interpreting engineer drawings and models.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Basic Qualifications for the Sr. Principal Metrology Engineer CMM:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related discipline with 8 years of experience in Programming with PC-DMIS (Metrology software) for CMM Machines; Masters degree STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 6 years of experience in Programming with PC-DMIS (Metrology software) for CMM Machines.

  • Experience using metrology equipment.

  • Experience with Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and interpreting engineer drawings and models.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing metrology evaluations, calibration, data interpretation of Optical Equipment used in surveying equipment for Astronomic Reference north alignment.

  • Experience with ABSOLUTE (ROMER) ARMS using PC-DMIS.

  • Experience with MetCal and SureCal.

  • Experience with Gage Blocks to set up optical fixtures for Yaw, Pitch, and Roll for Navigation systems reference on Motion Simulators.

  • Active Secret Clearance.

  • Experience with tooling, fixtures, and precision angles levels.

  • Experience with Mechanical Metrology standards.

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $129,300.00 - $193,300.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
