Electrician Roadway Foreman - Norfolk, VA


Full-Time | Field Department

Lighting Maintenance Inc. (LMI) is seeking a skilled Journeyman Electrician / Roadway Foreman to lead a small field crew performing highway and roadway lighting repairs, electrical service work, underground wiring repairs, troubleshooting, and lighting system maintenance throughout Norfolk, VA.

This is a hands-on leadership role. Most of the work will involve repairing and maintaining roadway lighting systems, electrical services, underground feeds, lighting circuits, poles, fixtures, and related infrastructure. The right person can work independently, lead a one- to two-person crew, stay organized in the field, and make sure the work is completed safely, correctly, and efficiently.


What You'll Do

Lead day-to-day field operations for roadway lighting repair and maintenance work
Supervise and train a one- to two-person crew
Troubleshoot and repair highway and roadway lighting systems
Work on electrical services, underground wiring, lighting circuits, and control systems
Troubleshoot 3-phase lighting circuits
Locate underground electrical faults
Set light poles and repair pole-mounted lighting equipment
Install, repair, and maintain lighting fixtures, wiring, conduit, and related components
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, maps, manuals, specifications, and work orders
Use testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, and two-handed tools safely and effectively
Operate or work from bucket trucks, lifts, trenchers, backhoes, lift trucks, and related equipment when needed
Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and job status
Follow NEC standards, work zone safety requirements, and all company safety procedures
Coordinate with managers, inspectors, customers, and other field personnel as needed


Position Requirements

Journeyman Electrical License required
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent training
Minimum 4 years of electrical experience
Roadway lighting experience preferred
Ability to work independently and take ownership of field assignments
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills


Preferred Certifications & Experience

Bucket truck experience preferred - will train if needed
OSHA 10 preferred
Intermediate Work Zone certification preferred - will train
MOT / TTCM certification preferred - will train

Class B CDL preferred - will train
Experience with commercial, industrial, roadway, or outdoor lighting systems
Experience with underground electrical troubleshooting and repairs #ZR


Skills Needed

Ability to identify conductor colors
Strong troubleshooting skills for lighting and electrical systems
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, electrical drawings, maps, and written instructions
Competent with power tools, hand tools, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jackhammers, and testing equipment
Ability to safely dig trenches using hand tools or power equipment
Knowledge of low-voltage and high-voltage electrical safety practices
Ability to operate company trucks with automatic transmissions
Ability to work safely around traffic, roadways, construction sites, and energized equipment
Knowledge of NEC standards and safe work procedures


Working Conditions

Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind
Standard schedule is 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
Overtime may be required
Occasional night work may be required
Must be comfortable working along highways, roadways, and active work zones


Physical Requirements

Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead
Ability to lift up to 51 pounds
Ability to climb ladders and work from aerial lifts or bucket trucks
Ability to perform overhead work for full-day assignments
Good vision, normal or corrected
