Job description


This position supports data-driven decision making across all departments of the VolShop by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting operational and business data. The Data Analyst develops reports, dashboards, and visualizations that improve merchandising, inventory management, e-commerce, course materials, customer experience, and financial performance. Working independently under general supervision, this position ensures data integrity, identifies trends and opportunities, and partners with all departmental managers to improve operational efficiency through data analysis and business intelligence.
Responsibilities
Business Analytics & Reporting
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret operational, financial, merchandising, inventory, e-commerce, and customer data from multiple systems.
  • Develop recurring and ad hoc reports, dashboards, spreadsheets, and visualizations that support departmental planning and decision making.
  • Identify trends, opportunities, risks, and key performance indicators for leadership.

Data Management & Quality Assurance
  • Maintain data integrity by auditing datasets, validating information, identifying discrepancies, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Assist with database maintenance by reviewing and analyzing data, recognizing anomalies, recommending corrections and updates to data governance practices and documentation of reporting processes.
  • Support the development of standardized reporting procedures and best practices.

Business Intelligence & Operational Support
  • Write queries to retrieve and combine data from multiple systems including enterprise resource planning (ERP), point-of-sale, e-commerce, and other business applications.
  • Support inventory analysis, sales forecasting, merchandising performance, customer purchasing trends, and operational improvement initiatives by providing data analysis and insightful recommendations to management.
  • Participate in special projects requiring data analysis and research.

Communication, Training & Collaboration
  • Prepare presentations and communicate findings including trends and recommendations for actions to managers and departmental stakeholders in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.
  • Train staff on reports, dashboards, and data tools as needed. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify reporting needs and recommend analytical solutions.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1 year of experience in data analytics
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree
  • 1 year experience working in retail or college store industry.
  • 1 year experience with retail analytics including sales reporting, inventory analysis, merchandising, purchasing, customer analytics, or e-commerce reporting.
  • 1 year experience with ERP systems, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, NetSuite, or other reporting and business intelligence tools.
  • 1 year experience gained through internships, student employment, graduate assistantships, or professional employment may be considered.
