Head Coach, Men's Baseball
THE UNIVERSITY: Cal State East Bay's beautiful main campus is located in the Hayward hills with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay shoreline. THE DEPARTMENT: The California State University East Bay Athletic Department (Pioneer Athletics) strives to fulfill the educational mission of the university while providing unique opportunities for personal growth and success outside of the classroom. Pioneer Athletics has aligned itself with the eight shared strategic commitments set forth by Cal State East Bay, showcasing the partnership that exists between athletics and the university community. Pioneer Athletics maintains its focus on the academic and athletic success of our student-athletes, as well as, preparing this diverse population of students for meaningful lifework and to be socially responsible contributors to society. Cal State East Bay is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II, and sponsors 15 Intercollegiate athletic programs. In June 2011, the Pioneers made the transition back to NCAA Division II during the 2009-10 season after a 10-year absence. CSUEB is a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), which has won 154 national championships since its inception in 1939, the most of any Division II conference. In addition, the Pioneer Swimming program is a member of the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference (PCSC).
DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The head coach for men's baseball is a full time position dealing with the management of all facets of the men's baseball program to produce an athletically competitive, academically successful and socially responsible team.
Head coaching responsibilities to include but are not limited to: game and practice coaching; program administration; budget management; involvement in campus, alumni, constituent and community engagement; recruiting; supervision of assistant coach(es); supervision of camps and direct involvement in program-specific fundraising efforts; recommending a schedule of competitions; coordination of team travel; monitoring of academic progress, retention and counseling of student-athletes; creation of an environment where degree attainment is a priority; and compliance with NCAA and conference rules and regulations. It is expected that the program will be conducted with honesty and sportsmanship at all times within the rules and regulations of the CCAA and the NCAA.
Responsibilities include:
Coaching and program administration:
- Complete day-to-day planning and supervision of practices and competitions for baseball.
- Strategize, prepare, and coach student-athletes at competitions
- Provide instruction and development for individual/team improvement, teach overall team and individual athlete strategies, analyze athlete performance, prepare student-athletes for highest possible level of competition
- Manage staff to adhere to overall vision for program and execute daily responsibilities accordingly
- Support the implementation of physical preparedness program for team
- Attend all department and assigned staff meetings.
- Complete any and all required department, campus, CSU, CCAA and NCAA trainings.
Recruiting:
- Following NCAA Division II, CCAA and department guidelines recruit prospective student-athletes at a level to compete in the CCAA and NCAA successfully.
- Maintain roster sizes and compilations that position the program to compete at highest possible levels
- Work to strategically advance recruiting tactics and effectiveness to consistently meet evaluation benchmarks
Academic progress and compliance:
- Work with compliance office and academic advising to monitor and support student-athletes making progress towards degree completion and graduation
- Complete all department and NCAA requirements for compliance including but not limited to: weekly CARA logs, recruiting logs, roster management, schedule submissions, and contact notifications
- Participate in all scheduled compliance programming
- Work with compliance office and academic advising for admission of recruited prospective student-athletes
Community, Department, and Constituent Engagement:
- Plan for and facilitate the involvement of baseball student-athletes in appropriate community engagement initiatives.
- Ensure that baseball student-athletes participate in the Student Athlete Advisory Council.
- Prepare and execute annual program plans for the purpose of the engagement of constituents (e.g., alumni; fans; parents) and program specific fundraising efforts.
Other Duties As Assigned
- Complete other duties as assigned (ex. serve on pertinent department and campus committees as needed)
SALARY: Salary Range: $9,883.00/month to $13,378.00/month. PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $9,883.00/month to $13,378.00/month.
Cal State East Bay offers a broad range of benefits that includes medical, dental, vision, retirement (CalPERS), 401k, 457, 403(b), dependent and health care reimbursement accounts, life insurance, vacation and sick leave, 14 paid holidays, one personal holiday and tuition fee waiver.
Eligibility standards for health benefits are determined by the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). PLEASE NOTE: Benefits eligibility and earnings may be impacted if a candidate is unable to work through the entirety of the appointment or if the percentage of employment does not qualify them for benefits. To be eligible for CalPERS health benefits while you are working, including dental and vision plan benefits, you must be appointed to a job that will last at least six months and one day, and work at least half time.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of successful collegiate baseball coaching experience; demonstrated collegiate recruiting experience; strong organizational and administrative skills; ability to interact effectively with prospective and enrolled student-athletes, fellow coaches, athletic department team members, and university administration; demonstrated strong commitment to student-athlete retention and academic achievement; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse student, faculty, staff and community is essential; must possess or be able to obtain a California Driver's License.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge
Master's degree with an academic background in kinesiology/physical education, sports management or a related field; five or more years of successful collegiate head coaching experience; collegiate recruiting experience in California; prior staff supervision experience; demonstrated program level budget management experience and knowledge of Division II NCAA rules and regulations.
