Job description

Standard Job Description IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position. This occupation requires the inspection of vehicle structures, assemblies, systems, components, materials and parts using magnetic particle, penetrant, x-ray and one of the following non-destructive test methods: thermography, x-ray filmless, eddy current or ultrasonic. Independently set up and operate x-ray, magnetic particle, and penetrant; and one of the following non-destructive test methods, thermography, x-ray filmless, or ultrasonic; and equipment and processes to perform inspection operations using NDT methods.

Select method of inspection to meet customer requirements when required; determine and develop the most effective inspection methods to be used for specific applications; work from pre-released drawings, sketches, released drawings and other engineering information. Improvise shop aids to facilitate NDT inspection processes. Interpret test results and develop procedures and techniques in all NDT methods for which certified.

May perform work required of other NDT inspection processes to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities, and certifications for qualification for the Inspector - Non Destruct Test Specialist 614-1. Perform the duties of the Inspector - Non-Destructive Test, Code 614-5. Basic Qualifications Complete knowledge of the principles and practices of NDT methods, techniques, and processes including radiography, ultrasonic, penetrant and magnetic particle; and one of the following non-destructive test methods, thermography, X-ray filmless, eddy current, or ultrasonic including level II certification.

Must possess Level II certification in the following NDT methods: ultrasonic and radiography and either liquid penetrant or magnetic particle. Must meet the standards of NDT industry and company certification requirements of applicable methods. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance: U.S

Citizenship required. Desired Skills Individual would be Level 2 certified in accordance with NAS410 and already possess a valid state or IRRSP radiation safety certification/card. Individuals with Visual Weld, Infared Thermography, Computed Tomography, Digital Radiography and/or Computed Radiography experience will be noted for preference.

Familiarity with GE Rhythm, YXLON F.GUI, Image 3500, and/or NSI efX-CT and DR is also desirable. Experience inspecting product forms include welding, castings, composites, COPV, micro-electronics, circuit card level solder joints, and ordnance/solid propellants. Experience with AWS, ASME, MIL-STDs and ASTM standards

A 2 year college degree with Nondestructive Testing is preferred. Previous Level 2 certification and work experience methods would also be a desirable. Be able to support all Space Systems programs and sites.

Individual must be able to work independently, but also with remote teams of NDT personnel and perform inspections individually. Individual will be expected to support program required inspections on off-shifts and with short notice to ensure program hardware is available to support program needs and schedules. Business travel is expected to other LM locations, LM suppliers, and customer sites (e.g., NASA and DoD locations) to support program and customer requirements

Individual must be able learn and apply intermediate to advanced computer skills with software such as Microsoft Office and various computer aided NDT inspection systems.
