Job Title: Peer Support Specialist

Location: Goldsboro, NC

comprehensive, evidence-based mental health and substance use disorder
treatment services. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Peer Support Specialist to join our team.

Position Overview:

As a Peer Support Specialist, you will provide care for those who suffer from substance use disorders in the context of “shared experience.” A Peer Support Specialist will provide interventions designed to assist persons suffering from substance use disorders transition into a new way of living.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with licensed and non-licensed clinical staff to identify areas of need for persons served and develop appropriate interventions within the framework of the person centered profile or person centered treatment plan of the person served
  • Facilitate engagement of the person served with natural supports in the community such as self-help community support groups (Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, etc.) and community agencies such as Department of Social Services, Health Department, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.
  • Conduct all services in a manner which promotes patient welfare through maintaining positive attributes of calmness, trust, reassurance, affirmation and hope.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to maintain productivity and assist persons served within a timeframe that suits their needs, including through the use of phone calls or after hours activities such as attendance of 12 step meetings
  • Manages and monitors caseload of active treatment for persons served
  • Assisting with intake process including initial screening and demographic information gathering and review of intake documentation
  • Orient new persons served to ICGH
  • Identification of crisis situations for persons served and obtaining assistance in resolution in these situations
  • Completion of clinical documentation including progress notes and other documentation within established timeframe
  • Complete and submits monthly reports
  • Participation in clinical supervision and interdisciplinary treatment team for case consultation
  • Participation in clinical supervision and interdisciplinary treatment team for supervision as outlined in supervision plan
  • Participation in Peer Review and other QI activities
  • Facilitating relationships between ICGH, service user families/legal guardians and various social services and community resources, such as Food and Nutrition Services, housing assistance, healthcare, job training and placement and substance abuse support groups

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong recovery oriented skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical practice.
  • Excel at working with persons served to uncover needs of persons served and be able to anticipate these needs.
  • Agreement and adherence to all ethical guidelines for appropriate boards
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a urine drug screen and background check (use of drugs may result in immediate termination)
  • Meet the physical requirements of performing CPR and therapeutic holds
  • Current credential as a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist
