What is a full time MEWP operator?

A Full Time MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) operator is a professional who operates equipment such as cherry pickers, scissor lifts, or boom lifts to safely elevate workers to perform tasks at height. These operators are responsible for maneuvering the equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and conducting pre-operation inspections. They often work in construction, maintenance, or industrial settings, and must hold a recognized license or certification to operate MEWPs. A full-time position means the operator works regular hours as a permanent employee rather than on a temporary or part-time basis.

What are some safety challenges full time MEWP operators commonly face, and how are these typically addressed on the job?

Full Time MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) operators often encounter safety challenges such as working at height, navigating uneven terrain, and operating in tight or busy job sites. To address these, employers provide comprehensive safety training, require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and enforce strict adherence to safety protocols. Regular equipment inspections and clear communication with ground teams are also key to minimizing risks. Collaboration with site supervisors and other trades ensures that MEWP operations are coordinated safely within larger project workflows.
