The Communication Architectures Department (CAD) has three main lines of work: the department performs trade studies, analyses, and simulations to optimize the overall communications performance of terrestrial and space-based systems. CAD also guides the development of spectrum regulations and policies to assure critical wireless systems have access to necessary spectrum resources. Finally, we are actively engaged in the development of RF communications prototypes, especially those involving commercial LEO and MEO satellite systems as well as hybrid commercial and US Government (USG) systems.
The role of the Engineer Specialist or Senior Engineer Specialist - Communications Systems Engineering designs, develops, models, simulates, tests, and analyzes communications systems, subsystems, and electronic signals for communication networks, data links, digital radio, battle management, and command and control systems. Examples include wide and local area networks, point-to-point systems, and secure systems. They apply knowledge of communications systems, modulation schema, signal coding, digital and wireless radio/communications technology, network architecture design, and related concepts, methods, techniques and tools, and document work and results.
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time on-site at our facility in Colorado Springs, CO.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Performing technical analyses of space-based and terrestrial communication systems, including commercial systems and hybrid commercial and USG systems

  • Developing working prototypes to demonstrate capability improvements

  • Providing ongoing technical consultation and advice to management, customers, and contractors in area of specialization.

  • Leading cross-organizational teams and interfacing with USG customer and/or Aerospace program offices

  • Growing Aerospace technical support amongst USG customers

  • Mentoring junior employees in communications systems engineering

What You Need to be Successful - Engineering Specialist
Minimum Requirements :
  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, physics, or other engineering with strong communications background

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant technical experience

  • Exceptionally high level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to other work locations or customer sites, approx. 6%.

  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the Senior Engineering Specialist include:
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant technical experience

  • Proven project development and technical leadership experience

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • Master's or PhD in engineering or related discipline

  • Knowledge of USG programs, commercial satellite systems, and USG roadmaps

  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB

  • 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
